Hints of the Verizon iPhone Launch Point to Early February

Hints of the Verizon iPhone Launch Point to Early February

Could it be? As most of the tech world is huddled around various devices in Las Vegas, Apple is quietly rolling out vacation date block outs between February 3rd and February 6th, a source confirmed with BGR today. Something big will likely be launch on the 3rd, a Thursday, and unless Apple has a big surprise up their sleeves (which is never out of the question with Apple) it is likely that we will have a Verizon iPhone launch on that day. Can you hear me now? Not yet, but soon….

What We Really Want To See at CES: The Super Widget

What We Really Want To See at CES: The Super Widget

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, every new form of gadget and technology is on display for tech bloggers and their readers to see. It’s a buffet of geek that can satiate all eDesires. And yet, it’s still not enough. We need more. We want to see what we have never seen before. We want to be amazed. Our friends at GetSatisfaction have the right idea in their creation: the hands-free, double-mounted. eco-friendly, portable, constantly-connected remote with 5G speeds, holographic interface, and airplane mode. Enjoy. Click to Enlarge. …

Verizon iPhone: The True Test for Android and Blackberry

Verizon iPhone: The True Test for Android and Blackberry

There are so many stats, studies, and graphics depicting the rise of Android and the continued success of Blackberry that we won’t mention them here. They’re all meaningless until we see a Verizon iPhone. When it comes, we’ll finally see how Android and Blackberry truly stack up to the iPhone. Speculations are rampant about when it will arrive. Some are now saying February. In true Apple fashion, the news will come when it comes and buildup to Steve Jobs standing on stage smiling with a huge Verizon logo in the background will not be necessary. It will have the fanfare of a product launch and everyone…

11 Bold Tech Predictions for 2011

11 Bold Tech Predictions for 2011

The past year in technology was among the more surprising ones we’ve had. Even the most astute, insightful tech observers would have had trouble predicting some of the things that happened this year. The iPad and Kinect have become the fastest selling electronic devices in history. Android exploded at a rate few could have seen coming. Facebook and Twitter kept up their blistering expansion rates, while Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7… is actually good. But what about this coming year? What events and happenings will not only define 2011, but also cause tech-heads to look back in a year from now…

Android Surpasses 200k Total Apps, 100+ Downloads Per Second

Android Surpasses 200k Total Apps, 100+ Downloads Per Second

The trends are pointing north. The developers are developing. The devices are flying off shelves. With over 200,000 Apps available in the Android Marketplace, the question that nobody who’s anybody is asking is, “Can they catch the iPhone?” They still have a ways to go, but according to unofficial numbers posted by AndroLib, over 25,000 Apps were developed last month and the numbers keep climbing. At 103 downloads per second, they’ll need them. …

Can the Samsung Galaxy Player Really Compete with the iPod Touch?

Can the Samsung Galaxy Player Really Compete with the iPod Touch?

The mobile phone and tablet markets are ripe battlegrounds for Android-based gadgets to make their mark. Apple is the leader but not by a huge margin. Some predict that Android will explode in 2011. There is little doubt that Apple has its hands full trying to maintain its dominance in these areas, but at least they have the app-driven, WiFi-connected MP3 player market locked down with the iPod touch, right? Maybe not. We’ll find out more after CES. It is hard to imagine that the niche that lies somewhere between iPod and iPhone could have room for more players, but that’s exactly what Samsung is banking…

Review: All-in-One Music System from Sonos

Review: All-in-One Music System from Sonos

The Sonos Multi-Room Music System allows you to extend your music’s reach to several rooms in a snap. The Sonos S5, ZoneBridge, and Controller 200 all make up an elaborate system that can take your home audio to the next level. It not only gives you the power to extend your musical collection to several rooms, but it also gives you access to so many incredible sources of music while providing numerous well-executed ways to control it as well. The S5 has a vague resemblance to an iPod dock. Coming in at 14-inches wide, 8-inches tall, and 4-inches deep, it is relatively small, but it’s what’s inside that…

A Credit Card You Won

A Credit Card You Won't Be Taking Through Airport Security

Now this is crazy. We’ve heard of credit card 2.0, but I don’t think we were expecting something so interesting (and so dangerous) like this. What we have now is a credit-card lookalike that is made of stainless steel that not only looks cool alone like that, but it also can be transformed into a small pocket knife. Simply fold the credit card in three easy steps, and you have a knife. It’s called CardSharp. There is no doubting that this thing is cool, but it is also a bit ironic: it shows just how dangerous credit cards can be to the modern consumer. So don’t get too crazy with those things. But maybe this…

Google TV Suffers Another Setback

Google TV Suffers Another Setback

If you were expecting to see various television makers unveil their offerings for Google TV at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month, prepare to be disappointed. Google TV has received lukewarm reviews since its introduction in October and has asked TV makers such as LG, Sharp, and Toshiba to delay their introductions. “Fine-tuning the software” is the unofficial word and would make sense as Google tries to navigate through the challenging arena of consumer electronics. With the exception of Android for smartphones, they haven’t displayed a lot of success so far. Gina Weakley,…

Image-Translating iPhone App May Just Blow Your Mind

Image-Translating iPhone App May Just Blow Your Mind

Translating technology has come a long way since Babblefish. A new iPhone App called Word Lens combines augmented reality, real-time translation and character-recognition software that will have you heading to that Mexican restaurant you always wanted to try but couldn’t read the menu. The app looks for characters through the iPhone camera and translates them in real time, replacing the foreign words with their English counterparts (and visa-versa). For over 2 years, Quest Visual founders Otavio Good and John DeWeese have been working on the technology that will aid travelers abroad….

It's A Mouse! It's A Gamepad! It's Amazing!

Alright, so ‘amazing’ is hardly a claim I can make considering I haven’t actually given this device a try as of yet, but being your typical emulation freak, a quick gamepad solution like the Chameleon X-1 from Shogun Bros. looks like it could certainly be something to perform an elaborate song and dance number about. Cramming an entire operational gamepad into a mouse is no small feat, especially when said gamepad is located on the underside of the damn thing – for that, the brothers Shogun deserve a peek at my propers (and, assuming you’re impressed, yours). I especially like the dual PSP nubs – say…

Kin Studio: The Only Compelling Thing About The Kin Is Being Discontinued

Kin Studio: The Only Compelling Thing About The Kin Is Being Discontinued

Those of you who bought a Kin (all 500 of you) probably liked the Kin Studio. It was likely one of the biggest reasons you bought the phone in the first place, having social networks and life-streaming apps from the cloud in your hands. As of January 31, 2011, the Kin Studio will be no more. Those who have a Kin will be given the option of getting a new phone for free. The phone will continue to work, as will Zune, text messaging, web, and other basic functionality, but the studio itself will be closed. According to WP Central, owners of the Kin will lose: Feed Reader will stop working Search Near me will stop…
