Well, it’s certainly about time. Nintendo has confirmed that the rumoured ‘Project Café’ – the whispered-of successor to the rapidly-aging Wii – will be playable at E3, and on shelves in 2012. Sporting a 6-inch touchscreen on each controller, Project Café’s aim is allegedly to bring more freedom to the concept of the home console, and to take the gamer’s focus off the idea of a console as a plastic box tethered to a television set. Who doesn’t love an idea of jumping through portals to solve complicated puzzels? Not to mention the possibility of beating a game while running backwards in under 10 minutes. That’s what you get with the original Portal. But today it just got more interesting — Portal 2 is now available. Kotaku is reporting that Nintendo might be dialing up the awesome (finally) in preparation to debut a new console this year at E3 – a console that will apparently leapfrog both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in performance. And that wouldn’t be half bad – while the Wii was a smash hit upon its debut, who cares about motion controlled gaming now? You? If it’s you, I’m sorry. Let me make this perfectly clear: I love Mortal Kombat. “Flawless victory” was constantly echoed from my room when I was younger as I destroyed all who stood in my way. So imagine my happiness when I learned that Warner Bros decided that it was time to bring back the series, and not only that, but they were going to market the new game with a live-action web series that would span nine episodes. Apparently it is, according to creative hacker who gutted an original Nintendo NES cartridge, purchased some parts, stuck ‘em inside, and managed to create a working Nintendo NES console out of it all. In fact, you actually stick a cartridge within a cartridge. It’s nothing short of amazing. I would so buy one of these in a heartbeat….

The wildly popular game Portal on Steam had its sequel officially announced earlier this month. Now, we have a sneak peek of the game, courtesy of HotHardware who took some footage at PAX East. It is slated to be released on nearly all platforms on April 18th. What outpaced the ubiquitous Apple iPad and iPhone in terms of sales? According to the Guinness World Records, it’s the Kinect for the Xbox 360. Kinect has officially become the Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device. The device enables users to play video games without the use of a traditional controller. On average, 133,333 Kinects were sold each day between November 2010 and January 2011. Nintendo’s new 3DS handheld game console may prove to be the ultimate device for gaming and entertainment on the go. In addition to letting users view games in three-dimensions, without the need for glasses, the 3DS will offer video content from Netflix and free WiFi connectivity. At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, Nintendo announced its new Netflix deal that will allows gamers to stream video on the go. Over 60 major tech and gaming publications announced today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would be announced next week. The reports gave details of the exact date and time as well as speculation surrounding the storyline and possible characters involved.
