90s kids in 45 years

90s kids in 45 years

If you ask older people today, many would use phrases of disappointment akin to “weeping for the future” or “I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.” The perception of the future for the younger generation isn’t much different; cynicism is strong and our future doesn’t seem as bright as it once did. There is, however, a concept that may or may not be true but should make us smile nonetheless. From Reddit, here’s a vision of 2057 that appears closer to reality than most others we’ve seen lately. Link's Love Nest

Ah, young love. It warms the heart to see young gaming characters finding each other after a long quest and heading into the world of everlasting relationships as it so often does in gaming lands. Unfortunately for Link, his humble abode may not be exactly what Zelda had in mind. (Via: GabeDraws)…

The major video game companies may be off the SOPA list but they still support it

The major video game companies may be off the SOPA list but they still support it

It’s one thing to distance your company from a list that had proven in the last couple of weeks to be detrimental to those on it. It’s another thing altogether to come out and oppose something because it’s fundamentally wrong even if doing so has a negative effect on your bottom line. Most of the big gaming companies who had their name removed from the SOPA support list have done little more than just that – had their names removed. Microsoft is the only major player in the industry that has voiced any opposition to the bill, saying in November that it needed major changes for them to support it. As Rawstory…

Xbox and iPad soar, others plummet as desired gifts for kids

Xbox and iPad soar, others plummet as desired gifts for kids

The trends of sales during the holidays often relies on the wants of children and teens. It isn’t just in their own gifts that we end up seeing the shift; adults will often follow the lead of their children when considering which gadgets to buy themselves and other adults. In 2011, the iPad continues to grow as a desired gadget. Despite the onslaught by Amazon with their Kindle Fire, which hopes to regain their “top Christmas gadget” status that they had in 2009 with its predecessor, kids are still seeing a brighter future for the device with the bigger screen, more apps, and 3G capabilities. On the…

Xbox 360 dominated gaming sales in November

Xbox 360 dominated gaming sales in November

Most were impressed with Microsoft and their Xbox 360 when it was reported that they had sold 1.44 million units in November, beating the Nintendo Wii by 400,000 units and nearly doubled up on the Sony Playstation 3. Those who weren’t impressed may have just been waiting for the actual numbers. With a record 1.7 million units sold in the U.S. in November, the Xbox 360 may have outsold the Playstation 3 and the Wii combined. Sony is not releasing their numbers, but estimates of their numbers would put the Microsoft console at 49% of the total current-generation console market, their largest margin…

Skyrim

Skyrim's Doublerain Bow

Skyrim is, of course, a hugely popular game. It’s immense in scope and the manhours it took to put it together will only be eclipsed by the hours the players will put into discovering its many secrets and fulfilling its plethora of tasks and quests. Call it an Easter egg. Call it a clever play on words. Call it whatever you want – this item available in Skyrim is an epic example of real-life memes infiltrating our games. Doublerain Bow. What does it mean? (Via: Reddit)…

50,000 year-old Sim City, "Magnasanti", holds 6 million Sims

When people spend too much time on a game, they are often ridiculed. In the case of Vincent Ocasla, he took science and art to the highest level in Sim City 3000 by making a “perfect” city. It only took him 4 years. See how he took the game as seriously as it can be taken: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTJQTc-TqpU…

MW3 might have the bulk of the attention, but Assassin

MW3 might have the bulk of the attention, but Assassin's Creed 4 is heating up

Last week saw one of the biggest buzz buildups surround a game in history as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched today. While debates, reviews, and pwning videos flood the internet this week surrounding the first-person shooter, another game is getting ready to launch next week. Fittingly, the buzz is building from the shadows for Assassin’s Creed Revelations. They wouldn’t have it any other way. The third game in the series to feature Ezio (and 4th overall) will outsell the previous 2 easily and is already a contender for Game of the Year even before it’s out. The following may not be as large…

Modern Warfare 3 live action trailer is funny, says little about the game

Modern Warfare 3 live action trailer is funny, says little about the game

If there was any doubt about the difference in marketing budgets between rival first-person shooters Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this video will dispel that doubt. Starring Sam Worthington, Jonah Hill and Dwight Howard, the minute-and-a-half trailer puts the action star, the comedy star, and the basketball star into the game. Worthington plays “The Vet” and his cohorts are “The n00bs” as the game, due to be released next week, apparently needs star power more than storyline or gameplay to bring it to the attention of the masses. Then again, anyone who enjoys first-person…

The Edison Memorial Tower, Minecraft edition

The Edison Memorial Tower, Minecraft edition

There are many instances of projects created in Minecraft that are nothing short of epic. With 10 million people building, destroying, and running from Spider Jockeys, replicas of real-life buildings and places are bound to hit servers across the Minecraft universe. Here, we get to watch the lucky geeks at the GE Show conceptualize, mock-up, and build the huge Edison Memorial Tower in New Jersey. When you have the time and are willing to put in the effort, cool (albeit useless) possibilities shine. …

Amazon to hit the gaming pre-order market today

Amazon to hit the gaming pre-order market today

Steam has more competition coming its way as Amazon is expected to offer PC game pre-orders on digital downloads starting today. The online sales giant already offers downloads of current titles such as Civilation V and NBA 2K12. Now, they will join Steam, EA’s Origin, and other online retailers in offering pre-orders with additional content and other pre-order-inducing incentives. They plan on starting with some of the popular games due out before the holidays, including Battlefield 3, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Saints Row: The Third, and Sims 3. Amazon has long used their clout, superior…
