Submit your blog to Bing and Google to increase traffic

Submit your blog to Bing and Google to increase traffic

There are so many websites and blogs out there that we could easily get lost in the shuffle without the appropriate keywords to help them find us. You don’t need to wait, quickly and easily submit your sites to give them a heads up of your existence and possibly increase traffic. …

Rumor: Google to halt new free accounts for Google Apps

Rumor: Google to halt new free accounts for Google Apps

Google has always allowed free access to their business-productivity product, Google Apps. Up to 10 users can have custom email addresses, calendars, contacts, Google Drive, team sites, and Google Docs as well as access to the Google Apps Marketplace. By the end of this month or early in September, Google will be be shutting down new free access. Businesses wanting to use these services will have to pay. Currently the base-level is $5 per user per month or $50 per user per year. Old free accounts will remain active but anyone signing up for new accounts will have to pay even if they are a small business….

Holy cowabunga dude, I heart Google+ Ripples

Holy cowabunga dude, I heart Google+ Ripples

Google has made so many changes and added new features it is making Facebook look like the tortoise in this race for supremacy. As much as I love it when social networks take the initiative to add to my life by adding to their sites, I wish they were a little more obvious about their changes. I almost want a flashing billboard to read “HEY YOU WE HAVE SOMETHING NEW” (the only time I would accept anything flashing on a page btw) to display on the page so I do not miss anything amazing as I have most recently. I am facepalming as we speak. Did I fall asleep? Blackout, am I really the only one who has yet to check…

The complex process of the Google search, simplified

The complex process of the Google search, simplified

It’s something that we totally take for granted thanks to the continuously-advancing wonders of the internet. We don’t go to libraries. We open phone books. We don’t dial information and we don’t own an encyclopedia. We search. We go to Google (or Bing or Yahoo) and start typing in what it is that we need to know. Before we’re done typing, we’re often presented with results for the terms. It knows! It knows what we’re about to type before we’re done typing it. Search engines have become a little too powerful. Some wonder how they work. This infographic from Mashable comes to us via Austin Honda and explores…

Stop killing social networks by begging for likes and retweets

Stop killing social networks by begging for likes and retweets

Okay, so perhaps the title sounds a little negative and normally I don’t like going to the Darkside, unless there are jelly doughnuts. However, I feel as though social sites like Facebook, Twitter and now even Google+ have people making the sites feel negative, or perhaps it is just the way it makes me feel, but there has got to be others out there that feel somewhat like I do. I am talking about the “like if you agree” or “please retweet this” posts; just typing them here makes my stomach turn. I get that social signals are rising and sites like Empire Avenue, Klout, PeerIndex and Kred all make…

Are pictures taking over the web?

Are pictures taking over the web?

Have you noticed the increase of pictures on Social Networks as of late? Google+ users have pretty much been doing this since the social network was still closed to the public. However, Facebook users have taken the picture sharing up a notch since that is what many people seem to be sharing these days. I am not complaining, in fact I personally part-take in posting pictures since learning that pictures that are directly uploaded to the site are preferred by the Facebook algorithm, more so than links. In fact this states true for anything that is organically added to the site like a status update or…

Google Chrome now accounts for over one-third of the worldwide browser market

Google Chrome now accounts for over one-third of the worldwide browser market

Mobile may be the talk of the web-browsing world, but computers still dominate. For now. As full-scale web browsers go, Chrome continues to dominate, and that is appearing to be the trend now and going forward. The latest news from reports from StatCounter show that in July, Chrome continued to push Internet Explorer and Firefox down on the scale by accounting for 33.8% of the worldwide browser traffic. Safari continued its slight upward movement, while Opera took a downward turn after making gains in May. According to TheNextWeb: StatCounter’s data has been openly questioned before, but…

Ouya: Doubts from a console gamer’s perspective

Ouya: Doubts from a console gamer’s perspective

Ouya is a new video game console powered by the Android platform. Developers of Ouya are seeking an open gaming platform for developers and gamers alike. One of my friends linked me on Facebook to the Ouya Kickstarter campaign one day after it was launched, at which point it had already raised over $1 million. At this point, Ouya has been featured on many top blogs and news outlets. While their pitch hit all the right spots, I have some lingering doubts about Ouya’s ability to make a lasting impact on the gaming industry and I want to share my doubts from the perspective of a console gamer. Ouya’s…

Can voice recognition technology turn more people into bloggers?

Can voice recognition technology turn more people into bloggers?

Note: This post was transcribed using an Android voice recorder sent via email. Total edit time: 3 minutes. I was speaking to a friend today who had a very interesting concept that I thought he should share. I asked him if he had a blog and he told me that he did not. When I asked him why he didn’t he told me that he’s okay with speaking about a subject but putting it “on paper” doesn’t work. My first thought as an old school journalist was to use a tape recorder. Transcribing later is an easy option if you could speak it first and then type it later. Then I remembered that Google and other companies have excellent…

The Romney campaign announced today that those who download the “Mitt’s VP” app for iOS and Android will be the first to know who his choice is for running mate in the upcoming presidential election. The app will push the name of the GOP vice presidential nominee directly to mobile devices as soon as word comes out from Romney campaign headquarters. “The first official way to learn the name of the Republican vice presidential candidate is by using our new ‘Mitt’s VP’ app,” said Romney digital director Zac Moffatt in a statement. “Users of the app will be the first to get the news on the biggest…
