Could a robot replace you at work?

Could a robot replace you at work?

The robot employment scenario has been described and discussed for decades. Ever since the first hints of automation started creeping into industrial production around the end of the 19th century, people have claimed that mechanical automation would eventually replace humans altogether for better or for worse. We’ve seen it happen a lot in recent years. They are able to do many of the tasks that once employed humans, even going so far as to replace noodle slicers in China. Should humans be worried that robotic automation could eventually put us all out of a job? Will it happen sooner than later?…

An indoor bed for campers

An indoor bed for campers

Camping outdoors is fun in the summertime that is; if otherwise you have to deal with some nasty elements that make camping less glamorous. Camping indoors is ideal since we loved creating tents out of blankets as a kid or setting up an actual store bought one in the basement. Glamping is a new form of camping where you don’t rough it in the wild; instead you add luxury to your camping trip by even going as far as setting up modernized tents that offer spa treatments (can you imagine?) …

If you can

If you can't beat 'em... Priceline buys KAYAK

In a deal that totals $1.8 billion in cash and stocks, Priceline has agreed to buy fellow comparison site KAYAK. This puts the shares of the publicly traded company at $40, up from where it closed today at $31. KAYAK consolidates the pricing from several different online booking services including Priceline. It appears that KAYAK will stay operational but it’s doubtful that it will continue to offer comparison shopping the way it does today. “Paul English and I started KAYAK eight years ago to create the best place to plan and book travel,” said Steve Hafner, KAYAK Chief Executive Officer and Cofounder….

You should watch this now! Why Netflix should have a sharing option

You should watch this now! Why Netflix should have a sharing option

So there was this awesome movie on Netflix starring Martin Sheen called The Way. The film begins with the death of Sheen’s son, played by Emilio Estevez (not much of a coincidence since Estevez wrote, produced and directed the film), while trekking the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage. Sheen then decides to walk the pilgrimage in his son’s stead, spreading his ashes along the way. This was an excellent film of father/son relationships, rediscovery and redemption that I would recommend to everyone. After the movie ended, I thought to myself; why doesn’t Netflix have a social sharing platform?…

M-commerce statistics and trends

M-commerce statistics and trends

In our pockets, we have a communication device that can be used for voice, text, email, chat, and just about every other form of chatter. We have a device that can surf the internet, play music, play videos, take pictures, and dozens of other tasks that once required multiple devices that were normally much bigger. This device, the smartphone, has replaced many things in the past couple of years. For many, it’s replacing the credit card and shopping trip. M-commerce is becoming “a thing”. This infographic breaks down some past and current stats that point to where we’re going in the future. Infographic…

The effects of the great bee death streak

The effects of the great bee death streak

As death streaks go, bees have had one of the most confounding. Scientists are at odds about what is making it happen. Solutions are not effective. They just seem to be dying left and right and there seems to be nothing we can do to stop it. They are one of the most important creatures when it comes to human survival. In this infographic that we grabbed off Visual.ly, we’ll explore how the dwindling bee community is affecting humans. * * * “Bees” image courtesy of Shutterstock….

Toaster messenger leaves love notes on your toast

Toaster messenger leaves love notes on your toast

Nothing gets you quite out of bed like the smell of coffee brewing in the air and breakfast filling your airways… stomachs they will turn and can even be more effective than an alarm clock. Sometimes we have to eat and run and leave notes behind along with the breakfast goodies we cook up to ease the absence, but nothing reads quite like toast. …

Laser scissors that will guide your way

As much as I long to believe that I have precision eyesight, when I attempt to cut anything freehand it always seems to look like a two year old got a hold of a pair of scissors. …

Remote controlled rechargeable heated insoles

Remote controlled rechargeable heated insoles

Winter is coming… It sure is approaching fast, some areas of the country have already seen snow and then there is Canada. The brisk winds chill us to the bone and a big pet peeve is cold feet, especially when having to stand in wet snow for any length of time. …

Temperature tiles that bloom with color

Temperature tiles that bloom with color

Bathrooms can be so mundane yet we spend a good amount of time within them, especially every morning when we shower. Wouldn’t it be nice to add some character to your shower?
