Songr Promises Music Discovery, Return of Silly Web 2.0 Names

Songr Promises Music Discovery, Return of Silly Web 2.0 Names

You know, it’s been a long time since we’ve had one of those slightly ridiculous Web 2.0 names that drops a vowel somewhere to be hip and cool. But Songr are bringing that trend back, baby! Fortunately for the music-discovery service, they actually seem pretty promising. Perhaps the best way to describe Songr is as a mix of Digg and Twitter for what you’re listening to. Rather than simply sharing which exact one is on your playlist right now, Songr lets people share what they’re listening to and then allows others to vote those songs up or down. So instead of rummaging around your music collection or…

Silk May be Future Material for Brain/Computer Interface

Silk May be Future Material for Brain/Computer Interface

Silk is being used to make electronics that stick to the brain. A far cry from fabric but doctors are hoping that using silk will help them explore parts of the brain that they weren’t previously able to. “This development heralds a new class of implantable devices, not just for the brain, but for many other tissues,” said neurologist Brian Litt of the University of Pennsylvania, in an interview with Wired.com. Engineers chose to use silk because it’s easily stretched and the material is super thin, making it easy to mould and work with, making for better brain-computer interfaces. BCI’s…

'The Page' Newspaper Concept Lets You Fold Screen Like Paper

In light of the tablet buzz of the past few weeks, we’ve been lucky enough to see some amazing magazine concepts meant for the future. The newspaper, however, has sorta’ gotten the shaft – maybe because not everyone believes the newspaper has a future. But if newspapers look anything like this ‘The Page’ concept, it seems like they’ll be sticking around for a while. Although you won’t see this in production for years, the idea is basically this: using a flexible screen about the size of your average daily, users log in using their fingerprint and get personalized news stories on an adaptable screen….

Star Wars Confirmed for Blu-Ray

Star Wars Confirmed for Blu-Ray

At a time like this, there is only one thing to say. And that thing is: OMG! OMG! OMG! Yes, according to the IGN, tweets coming in from the C2E2 comic book convention in Chicago report that Steve Sansweet of Lucasfilm confirmed that all six Star Wars movies are being readied for Blu-Ray release, along with extras. Sansweet reportedly said the following: “We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that…

Skate, Cycle and Ski all at the same time with Chariot Skates.

Skate, Cycle and Ski all at the same time with Chariot Skates.

While searching for the latest and greatest technology and gadgets, I rolled upon this website and was both intrigued and confused. Introducing Chariot Skates, a innovative idea from inventor Michael Jenkins from Australia. He has turned his idea of meshing skating, skiing and cycling all into one idea. He has essentially taken two large wheels and attached the skater’s foot below the axle for a more fluid ride. Although I am extremely interested in testing out these skates, I wonder if I will have the guts to strap them on and head down to the beach and actually use this product in public. It kind…

Is Twitter on the decline? The numbers say so.

Is Twitter on the decline? The numbers say so.

I’m not sure what I would do these days without Twitter. I mean, if I don’t know what some people are doing or what they are eating for lunch, how can I make it though the day? Thankfully, Twitter lets me know all of this, but is it on the decline? What will I do with my free time now? PCWorld reports that numbers in Twitter land are significantly dropping. A study conducted by Barracuda Networks in December of 2009, looked at 19 million Twitter users and made assumptions from their research. The one assumption they made was: A “True” Twitter-er has at least 10 followers, follows at least 10 people and had…

Apple Files Patent for Electronic Concert Tix that Work With iTunes

Afraid of losing your concert tickets before the show? Apple has an app for that in the works. Apple has just come out with a detailed patent for a new application that will allow customers with an iPhone to buy concert tickets. The application may be called “Concert Ticket+”, according to the patent filing, and it works with Apple and iTunes to get rid of paper tickets. The application is designed to improve the process of buying tickets and will offer access to live recording of concerts you have attended, to theme parks and other big events. It will also let you know of any upcoming concerts that…

Foursquare Day: Word of Mouth Advertising is Back

Foursquare Day: Word of Mouth Advertising is Back

If you’re already a member of Foursquare, you know damn well it’s Foursquare Day, and have probably already been ‘playing’ for a couple hours. Good luck, and godspeed. For the rest of you, let me tell you all about the most bizarre alternate reality game you’ve never played, and why it’s important. I’m a pretty cheap guy, and as such do not yet own a smartphone. My phone is an LG 8100, if you must know: takes MiniSD for memory (MicroSD’s completely useless and defunct cousin), looks like it was designed by Rubbermaid, and has suffered a veritable gauntlet of alternative applications: hammer, doorstop,…

Things No One Will Ever Buy, Ever: The TV Hat

Things No One Will Ever Buy, Ever: The TV Hat

I know what you’re thinking. Actually, you may even be using far more colorful language than I. But this isn’t the half of it. I’m actually having a hard time typing this article through my fit of giggles. But for all my tears, the TV Hat (seriously, that’s what it’s called. Simply ‘TV Hat’.) isn’t even what it advertises itself to be. That is to say, no TV is involved. It’s a pocket for your iPhone. That you hang on your face. Watch what you want, when you want, where you want. Slide your iPod®, iPhone® or most any MP3 player into the interior pouch and the attached 2.5x magnification screen helps give…

Spectacular Waterfall Billboard Presents A Powerful Message

Spectacular Waterfall Billboard Presents A Powerful Message

Water is an amazing thing that is taken for granted. So it is quite awesome when some creative minds make art out of water. Something that many of us have never seen, and, as is clear from the video, something you can’t help but watch in amazement. Aquascript is the technology that powered this billboard in Paris. It is a system that utilizes water streams to create images, messages, and other forms of visual information. And while this technology is hardly new (it hit the media spotlight in 2008), it is still quite amazing to see it in action. But as amazing it is to look at, it is even more impressive to…

New Service Ends Relationships For You Because Being a Grown-Up is Hard

New Service Ends Relationships For You Because Being a Grown-Up is Hard

Remember the old days? When there was no internet, and only four channels on TV, asbestos in your walls and you actually had to break up with your partners face-to-face? How primitive, right?! Thankfully, here in the future, you can now employ the services of a website like breakupeasy.com to end your relationships for you. The, um, forward-thinking site lets you send break up messages via SMS, Facebook or email, even helpfully offering a list of reasons for the break-up, which range from things like ‘didn’t make enough time for you’ to ‘gave you an STD’. (Um, what?) Such a great idea, right? I mean,…

New Service Flutter A Stalker

New Service Flutter A Stalker's Dream

About a year ago, the blogosphere was all-a-twitter about a clever parody service named Flutter that shortened micro-blogging down to 26 characters. But now, in one of those funny twists of Web 2.0, we’re getting a real service named Flutter – but rather than shrinking Twitter messages even further, it simply tells you who from your social networks is physically close by. Launched by Mashed-In, Flutter connects with your Twitter, Facebook and Linked-In friends and, using geo-aware tech in mobile phones, lets you know whenever they check in or update something from nearby. While this naturally…
