A video has appeared on YouTube that appears to show HTC’s customized UI for Microsoft’s upcoming mobile OS. Windows Phone Series 7, now Windows Phone 7, now coming to be known as WP7 is due to hit the streets in the near future, and this video appears to show a WP7 phone with several new apps and UI touches. The apps include 3D notes that fly off the screen and a cute “love me, love me not” animated app. The video, first spotted by mobilitydigest.com, is not official, but features the words ‘HTC confidential’ at the bottom, and one tile on the home screen of the phone shows the HTC Portal….

Despite Soviet heritage, I don’t pretend to know more Russian than I learned watching James Bond movies through my childhood. Basically, I know ‘yes’, ‘no’, and a host of Russian swear words slipped slyly past the ratings board. The general consensus following the release of the BlackBerry Torch in the tech journalism sphere was that RIM had failed to put out a competitor to the iPhone and Android smartphones, and had therefore failed. Since we’re never really about swimming with the other salmon here on Techi, I decided to hold a very unscientific poll of a few friends and colleagues who were already BlackBerry users to see if they agreed with the pundits. Nokia’s next generation of phones will be powered by an OS named MeeGo, the convergence of Nokia’s Maemo OS and Intel’s Moblin OS. The official MeeGo site provided a preview of the new interface, which contains few surprises. The icons are displayed grid-style, like Android and iOS. Much of the visual cues and UX look similar or identical to iOS. While Nokia clearly isn’t aiming for a revolutionary experience like Microsoft is with Windows Phone 7, it’ll be great to see a fresh coat of paint on a Nokia device….

Microsoft is bold. In this new ad for Windows Phone 7, a simple promise is made: ‘The revolution is coming’. I don’t want to knock Microsoft. I love Microsoft (…most of the time). Sure, they’re kinda boring and suit-y, but they more often than not make great products, and Windows Phone 7 is shaping up to be one of them, from what I’ve seen. This is how it works. The parent tells the kid “you must be home every day by 9pm.” The kid then says “Yes, mom.” The kid will proceed to come home at the designated time. Then he will do what all kids do. Wait until the coast is clear and sneak the hell out of there. Kids need freedom and parents don’t want to give it away. It seems Samsung is siding with the parents. They’re giving them access to a system (By GTX Corp) that scares me. In layman terms, your parents will be able to track every move you make via GPS. If you take your cellphone with you, they know where you are. Kind of like Foursquare on steroids….

It would seem Sony is setting something of a double standard, taking an indirect dig at Apple in its latest PSP ad. Though the phone is never mentioned by name, it’s clear ‘Josh Rose’, apparently kidding himself, is bragging about having downloaded, er… ‘Game Castle’ on an iPhone (looks like tight graphics if I’ve ever seen them). The commercial goes on to essentially say that for $9.99, you could be getting far greater and more playable games than the typical iPhone fare. And guess what? It’s not wrong.
