Metal your iPhone with Kiss and Slayer

Metal your iPhone with Kiss and Slayer

It could just be me, but I really like these two incredibly rock-tastic apps that recently appeared on the App Store, they come from rock acts, Kiss and Slayer. Kiss Your Face lets you plaster ‘digital makeup stickers’ on your photos, including a layer of white base on faces for the full Kiss effect — can we look forward a viral tidal wave of Kiss-like Facebook profiles? No? Ah well, if this sounds like fun to you then let me tell you it costs $1.99. Features: Over a dozen high-resolution digital makeup stickers to dress up your face — or your friends’ faces! Special digital makeup process applies a…

Doors Open On Google

Doors Open On Google's iTunes-Killing Music Plan

Google seems set to stick it to iTunes in an attempt to carve out its own slice of the music market, hoping that by linking music sales up with its dominant search engine it will be able to achieve a content ecosystem designed to support sales of devices powered by its browser-based Android-one-day-Chrome OS. The company is thought to be closing in on launching a music download service, offering tracks for sale and download. This will be followed by the introduction of a subscription-based music service next year (2011), at least, that is what the Wall Street Journal claims. Negotiations aren’t…

The iPhone 4 Just Became Your Best Drinking Buddy

The iPhone 4 Just Became Your Best Drinking Buddy

Man, the iPhone 4 isn’t even out yet and already the ‘cleverest app’ game has arguably been taken to its logical conclusion. Utilizing the iPhone 4′s gyroscope, the Drunkometer is the brainchild of web designers 23, and boasts a host of handy features, such as drunk-dial prevention, a Google Maps overlay that prevents you from accidentally ingesting unhealthy food, Foursquare integration (I lold), and a big red button to call your ‘Rescue Buddy’. To activate the Drunkometer, you simply perform a few simple balance tests while sober to calibrate the app. Once drunk, the app measures your ‘wobble…

I'm Drivin' It: California Ponders Ad-Supported Electronic License Plates

California must really be strapped for cash. In a move to generate some revenue, the state is considering a bill to allow electronic advertisements to be placed on vehicle license plates. Before your ass gets too puckered, I hear you – what about driver safety, right? Apparently, the ads will only play if a vehicle idles for more than four seconds, or is stopped entirely. The plate number would be visible perpetually in one form or another. That’s… slightly better, I guess. “The idea is not to turn a motorist’s vehicle into a mobile billboard,” said Senator Curren Price, the guy behind the idea,…

Oh, Snap! Droid Incredible Sneaks Peeks at Your Web Adventures

Oh, Snap! Droid Incredible Sneaks Peeks at Your Web Adventures

Man, it’s like privacy snafus are the new wardrobe malfunction or something. Not to be outdone by other privacy stories in the news, it seems the HTC Incredible’s Sense UI has got a nasty trick up its sleeve. As you may or may not be aware, Sense UI periodically takes a snapshot of your web browser. This is of course not uncommon, as almost any internet-browsing… THING takes screenshots for bookmark purposes and whatnot. However, the Incredible seems to have a problem with forgetting, keeping said screenshots for an awfully long time, including through a factory reset. Yikes. While you can manually…

Tech Soap: The Only Way You

Tech Soap: The Only Way You're Scamming a Nerd Into Getting Clean

You’re a tech geek. You’re dirty from logging 20 hours a day in your bedroom/office/cubicle/basement in front of things with screens. Dude, you need a bath. Now, I hear your complaints: ‘regular soap is so… un-tech!’ Yeah, I hear that. But last time I attempted to simply blast my naked self with compressed LCD cleaner, it didn’t work so well. An alternative would have to be found. However, thanks to the dude (or dudette? I suffer from geek gender bias – I admit it and I’m sorry) at Two Eggplants, we can finally scrape away the layers of filth keeping the ladies at bay and enjoy a rich social life, all…

Look At The Motorola Droid 2

Look At The Motorola Droid 2

Video and pictures of the hotly-anticipated Motorola Droid 2 have leaked out on the Internet, reaching us via Droid Life. The images confirm the new phone will keep that physical keyboard (proving there’s life outside of Apple’s focus on touch as the user interface), but the keyboard has been improved, with raised keys and no D-pad (hurrah). Droid Life tells us to expect WiFi tethering and a 750MHz OMAP processor. You’ll also get improved push-based social networking services — but forget any hope of a front-facing video camera — there isn’t one… Android 2.2 won’t appear on this…

eyeSight Wants You To Look Like an Android Wizard, Literally

eyeSight Wants You To Look Like an Android Wizard, Literally

Man, is it just me, or has gesture interface technology been a big thing lately, both Techi-side and abroad? Seems everywhere I look, tech manufacturers hither and yon are preparing some sort of gestural dealie. While that’s cool and all, and I like the idea of gesture being a possible future, this one in particular seems a little extraneous. This is eyeSight, and it has a really uninspired name. Nevertheless, eyeSight wants to be an interaction solution for Android-based devices. It’s a pretty simple concept: you wave your hand in front of your device, and the camera interprets your movements…

iPhone 4: Apple are Kings of Tech Because They Get Culture

iPhone 4: Apple are Kings of Tech Because They Get Culture

Given that today’s announcement of iPhone 4 contained almost nothing surprising, you’d think everything that needed to be said has already been uttered. You’d be wrong. In fact, the most important part of Jobs’ keynote today was not the the arrival of a phone we all knew was coming. No, it was a slide near the end that Apple have shown before that stated that Apple exists at the intersection of technology and ‘the liberal arts’. Here’s what Jobs said about it: I put up this slide earlier this year, and to me it represents what Apple is all about. It’s not just a technology company, even though we have…

New Bike Add-On Allows For Phone Charging... The Green Way

New Bike Add-On Allows For Phone Charging... The Green Way

The green movement has stopped being just about saving our dying planet and has become the fashionable thing to do. I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing, as on one hand it gets a group who wouldn’t normally care to be pulled into the movement involved, but on the other we lose the reason and passion of what began the movement in the process. This new phone charger from Nokia looks as if it will walk the line between the two, balancing green power and posh-ness. Nokia has come up with a way to charge your phone using the static electricity created by your rotating tire on your bike, therefore charging…

New Skype iPhone App Allows Calls over 3G

New Skype iPhone App Allows Calls over 3G

Skype has launched a new version of its client software for Apple’s iPhone 3G allowing users who have downloaded the app to make calls to other Skype users on the 3G network. The best part? The service remains free at least until the end of this year. Skype announced on Sunday that the new app is available for the 3G iPhone and that Skype-to-Skype calls over Wi-Fi will remain free until after the end of 2010. Skype has also said that they have not yet decided on what to charge for the calls. With the new software, owners of the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and the second and third generations of the iPod…

The iPhone Revolver - This Will Only End In Tears

The iPhone Revolver - This Will Only End In Tears

Oh, for the love of– Well, this is cute. Seems juniortan of Thingiverse has decided it’s a good idea for us to start carrying our iPhones around inside gun-shaped cases. Using a 3D printer, Tan has replicated a Ruger LCR that fits your iPhone and, from a reasonable distance, looks too authentic not to get you accidentally gunned down in the middle of the street. Tan has posted the necessary files for anyone with access to a 3D printer to go nuts and build their own, but for crap’s sake, people, can we please be careful, here? I know I usually champion over-manly tech accessories, but this is getting out…
