Get the gifts you want with the TofU App

It is not too early to start planning for Christmas is it? I know, it might be too soon, but not in the instance of wanting to get gifts you actually want right? This is right around the time when people start buying holiday gifts in preparation for the Holiday season, which my friend truly is not that far away. …

iPhone 5 launch event scheduled for September 12

iPhone 5 launch event scheduled for September 12

Next week, all of the rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 5 will be confirmed, refuted, or left in the air. One thing is certain: September 12th will be the official Apple iPhone 5 event. Though the invitation they sent to tech magazines across the internet didn’t give many specifics, the clever play on the date with the shadowed 5 makes it pretty clear what the event is going to surround. Will it have a 4″ screen as rumored? When will it officially be available? Will there be major changes to the hardware, battery, or other components? Are they really rolling out a new type of charger? We’ll know…

Is this the Blackberry 10?

Is this the Blackberry 10?

Blackberry news blog N4BB has published what is believed to be the first image of the Blackberry 10 L-Series smartphone. It looks legitimate as there is no handset that matches this look and feel of the screen. If so, it’s both good and bad news for Blackberry fans. On one hand, it seems to have the simplicity and “to the point” set of apps that traditional Blackberry users will enjoy. On the other hand, it does not have enough oomph to be able to compete with the iPhone or Android. Even those who are looking for an alternative will likely flock to the upcoming Windows 8 phones with their unique UI….

Hacker group AntiSec leaks Apple device IDs to highlight FBI tracking

Hacker group AntiSec leaks Apple device IDs to highlight FBI tracking

If reports from the hacker group are to be believed, the FBI has over 12 million Unique Device Identifiers (UDIDs) on file and now 1,000,001 of them have been leaked to the public. Using the AtomicReferenceArray vulnerability in Java, the group allegedly hacked into Supervisor Special Agent Christopher K Stangl’s notebook in March of this year and retrieved a file with information about Apple iOS device users. The file, named “NCFTA_iOS_device_intel.csv”, is claimed to have usernames, device names, device types, push notification tokens, zip codes, phone numbers, addresses, and other…

Let concerts find you with the SongKick app

Let concerts find you with the SongKick app

Music soothes the soul and it is something we can all relate to, we love a good tune to turn the volume on high and dance like a crazy person even when we are all alone. A song can trigger a memory and take you back to a person or a place in its very first notes. We all have our favorite genres and artists and we want to stay in the know when they are in our area so we can see them LIVE. Time spent trying to check out tour dates to only find that they are not playing in your location can be a real bummer. However, there is a way for you to let concerts of artists you want to see find you. …

Clash of the titans: Google and Apple CEOs talking behind the scenes ahead of public battle

Clash of the titans: Google and Apple CEOs talking behind the scenes ahead of public battle

If you thought the battle between Apple and Samsung was big, you may be in for a mobile device war between the two largest superpowers if recent statements out of the Google camp are to be believed. Reuters is reporting that the new heads of the two companies, Google’s Larry Page and Apple’s Tim Cook, were in meetings last week that were expected to continue today but had to be postponed for unknown reasons. Apple won the first major battle over Samsung which many are considering a proxy war against the overall Android operating system. Mobile OS is considered both the present and future of computing…

Smartphones to beat projections, account for half of all mobile phones by 2013

Smartphones to beat projections, account for half of all mobile phones by 2013

It wasn’t supposed to happen until 2015. Smartphones accounted for 35% of the worldwide market last year but they are projected to jump to over half of the market by next year. According to AllThingsD: “This represents a major upgrade for the outlook compared to a year ago, when smartphones weren’t expected to take the lead until 2015,” IHS senior analyst Wayne Lam said in a statement. “Over the past 12 months, smartphones have fallen in price, and a wider variety of models [has] become available, spurring sales of both low-end smartphones in regions like Asia-Pacific, as well as midrange…

Today I learned that two out of three app users use them daily

Today I learned that two out of three app users use them daily

As infographics go, this one was pretty light. In fact, I almost skipped it completely until I saw an interesting fact that I had to share. Two-thirds of app users use them daily. While this might seem like a no-brainer to some, it’s hard to imagine using actual apps on a daily basis. Nevertheless, that’s the information that is here and there’s no reason to doubt it. This infographic from Instant App Wizard comes to us via Greensboro Ford and explores “The Progression of Mobile Apps”. Click to enlarge. When you take a look at all of the devices that people use to browse the Internet these days, there is no device that has seen the growth that the mobile phone continues to see. Digital hopscotch: how social media revived playing outside

Digital hopscotch: how social media revived playing outside

Every now and then, I get tired of hearing the statement “When I was younger, I played in the streets” or “When I was younger, we didn’t have cell phones or laptop – we biked to each other’s houses and played outside.” These statements imply that kids today don’t do that. Let’s cut out the blanket generalizations because ultimately, they eventually turn into blatant exaggerations that usually result in your grandfather boasting that he as a boy, walked fifteen miles in the snow, to and from school. Somehow, both the route there and back were unfortunately uphill. I will concede…

Air Force

Air Force's mach 5 missile fails for third time

If the three-strikes-rule were in effect, the Air Force would be out of luck for testing its X-51A Waverider cruise missile as the supersonic rocket failed again to activate its scramjet propulsion system. The project has cost $300 million so far and there may not be enough budget (or will power) left for a fourth test. As part of the US Air Force’s “prompt global strike” initiative, the missile was supposed to give the military the ability to strike targets anywhere in the world in a matter of minutes. As a cruise missile, it would not be perceived as a nuclear threat and accidentally prompt a nuclear…

Should reading while driving be banned like tech devices?

Should reading while driving be banned like tech devices?

Tech devices are banned in many areas due to their ability to distract us while driving, however what about all the other things we do while driving, like make-up, eating or… reading? The Mayor of Toronto Ontario, Canada, Rob Ford was caught reading while he was behind the wheel, a twitpic was sent out on Twitter and shortly afterwards it went viral around the web. Catching a politician reading while driving would naturally cause a chain reaction of surprise since it could easily cause an accident. However, Mayor Ford will not be investigated and the Tweeter who originally posted the picture…
