IBM produces the world

IBM produces the world's smallest movie: A Boy and His Atom

IBM is one of the largest firms in the world in terms of both market capitalization and number of employees. It has held the record for most patents generated by a company for twenty consecutive years. A lot of time and effort was required to bring this company to the point is is today, but don’t let that fool you. Even the hard-working employees at IBM need to take some time off work and have a little fun. On Tuesday, IBM released a video on their YouTube channel called “A Boy and His Atom”. It’s a short, stop-motion movie created by a small team of nanophysicists as a part of a side project. It isn’t…

Wringing out a washcloth in space is the coolest thing you'll see all day

Some would call it a slow news day. We call it an epic day for space, for Canada, and for science. Canadian Space Agency’s Chris Hadfield has made a name for himself as being a combination of Bill Nye the Science Guy and Buck Rogers with his series of videos demonstrating things that so few people will ever be able to experience themselves. Living on the International Space Station can be lonely, but for Commander Hadfield, it’s just a way to make his dreams come true in spectacular fashion. In his most recent video, he’s demonstrates something so mundane on earth but so spectacular in space that it might…

Monkeys demand equal pay for their labors

Monkeys demand equal pay for their labors

Monkeys seem to have the ability to share the sentiment of the #OccupyWallStreet when it comes to equal pay. Grapes and cucumbers are not equal and these monkeys seem to know it. It’s part of an experiment type that has been duplicated numerous times. Animals that are rewarded for performing a task are okay when they each receive the same compensation for performing the same work regardless of how good or bad the reward is, but once one animal seems to be getting more reward than the other, they take offense to it. In the case of the angry monkey in the TED video below, one monkey takes great offense. …

Is Greer

Is Greer's Sirius alien real?

Either there’s a reasonable explanation for it all or “Ata” is the greatest biological find in human history. Steven Greer’s “alien”, a 6-inch tall corpse found in the Atacama Desert of Chili a decade ago, Was revealed Monday in a documentary called Sirius that left many extraterrestrial-life enthusiasts disappointed. Spoiler ahead. The results of the DNA testing as well as other tests and the expert opinions of the results show that the little body was that of a human, specifically a 7-year old child born from a Chilean mother. As tiny as the corpse is, it’s clear to see that this was no ordinary…

UFO activity in March, 2013

UFO activity in March, 2013

It was only yesterday that we covered February’s list. Now, we’re jumping right into March so we don’t continue to fall behind. The UFO phenomenon has been accelerating over the last few years. Some of it is due to the increase in the number of devices that are ever-ready for taking images and videos. Some would say that it’s deeper than that. They would say that there’s an increase in the number of sightings because there are more UFOs out there to be seen. Are they becoming more visible? Are they trying to be seen? We don’t know yet. We might not know any time in the near future. Then again, we might find…

Can Anonymous organize the anti-CISPA internet blackout on April 22nd?

Can Anonymous organize the anti-CISPA internet blackout on April 22nd?

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act has not drawn the same uproar that its SOPA predecessor received last year. It’s not because it’s any less dangerous to the privacy of those using the internet. It’s not that there’s any less information about it. CISPA is on a path to fly through Congress and onto the President’s desk without much of a cry because the US government learned from their mistakes the first time. This time, they did the two things they do best. The spun it and then they bargained their way into favor with the larger entities of the internet to get them to let this one slide…

7 geeky cakes that might be too beautiful to eat

7 geeky cakes that might be too beautiful to eat

It’s a tough call. On one hand, the detail and craftsmanship of these wonderful creations should be preserved for as long as cake can stay without rotting. On the other hand, letting them get to that stage at all would be a bad thing as well. After all, it’s cake, right? The folks over at that’s nerdalicious have an eye for finding geeky cakes on a regular basis. Here are some from their archives that we found exceptionally geek-worthy. Let them eat cake!   Jawa Cake [caption id="attachment_37165" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Source: Neatorama[/caption]   Assassin’s Creed Cake…

Kmart #shipmypants proves that clever and edgy outdoes star power on social media

Kmart #shipmypants proves that clever and edgy outdoes star power on social media

Kmart has had a tough time in recent years getting attention. They have tried to find success on social media, particularly on YouTube, but in the last year they’ve only had one video get more than 100,000 views. Five days ago, they put up a video that has had more views than the combined totals of dozens of videos they’ve put out over the last three years. This one got a lot more than anything they’ve ever seen. They’ve had videos with UFC stars like Wanderlei Silva and  Matt Hughes, country singers like Rascall Flatts and Jason Aldean, and pop stars like David Cook and Demi Lovato. They’ve tried how-to…

Uh oh. Reddit got a hold of a hi-res Kim Jong-un photo.

Uh oh. Reddit got a hold of a hi-res Kim Jong-un photo.

Now they’ve gone and done it. The Supreme Leader of North Korea is already a loose canon with plans for taking out Colorado Springs, TX. Now he’ll have even more of a reason to hate America once he sees how his glorious portrait has been masterfully manipulated by the front page of the internet, Reddit. It started off in r/pics then moved over to r/photoshopbattles. The results are a combination of funny, offensive, and with a handful that cross the line. We have enough Nicolas Cage images embedded into our heads. We don’t need another Nic on the head of Kim Jong-un. Here is a selection of some of the most…

YouTube stars, then and now

YouTube stars, then and now

YouTube makes stars out of ordinary people. It happens every day. In many cases, it’s not intentional, such as with the case of Antoine Dodson and the bedroom intruder. Others such as Jenna Marbles did exactly what they hoped to do – get on YouTube and find an audience for their videos. The path to YouTube stardom varies from person to person and their success level or notoriety can often follow them for a long time. While it’s too early to say whether or not it can last the rest of their lives (YouTube is just a decade old), for some who have found stardom, it seems to be sticking with them. In this graphic…
