Prop Designer is One Daft Punk

Prop Designer is One Daft Punk

Maybe you’ve heard of Harrison Krix. But you probably haven’t, so let me give it to you straight: this man is awesome. A prop designer based in Atlanta, Krix’s work speaks for itself. And frankly, no one will ever be able to say he isn’t one of the biggest Daft Punk fans currently among the human population of Earth. Taking 17 months out of his life to develop the ultimate homage, Krix has built an Arduino-powered working replica of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s trademark blinky-shiny LED helmet. If you’d like to know how to make your own, simply watch the video and, as Krix himself advises, “don’t…

The Biggest Waste Of Time On The Planet Just Got Wastier

The Biggest Waste Of Time On The Planet Just Got Wastier

Oh man. Guys. Check it. I’ve wasted too much of my morning on this already, and hopefully, you will too. No one’s quite sure when YouTube decided to add this easter egg, but it doesn’t work with the oldschool player, so it must have been no earlier than April. Hit up YouTube, and pause any video you like. You can also pause one you don’t like, I guess. Just find a video and pause it. Paused? Great. Now press the up and left arrow keys simultaneously. Assuming you don’t have the dexterity of a sea cucumber, you should be playing a YouTubian recreation of the classic arcade game Snake. If you’ve ever owned a…

Get Down, Get Funky, Get Moist - Only In Japan

Get Down, Get Funky, Get Moist - Only In Japan

After this morning, a regular fountain is going to have a seriously hard time impressing me. Built by KOEI Aquatic (I spent a grueling… like, six minutes trying to figure out if this is the same KOEI behind Dynasty Warriors – I dunno, guys), the fountain, inhabiting Japan’s Canal City mall in Fukuoka, works not unlike an inkjet printer, spraying programmed patterns of water onto… oh, whatever, you’re already watching the video, you know how this works. Just crank up iTunes and enjoy. There’s a dirty joke I’m missing here, but I’ll leave you to find it….

The Queen Is On Flickr

The Queen Is On Flickr

We are not amused. The royal family now has a Flickr account to add to their Twitter account and YouTube channel. While you may think the shared photos might be boring, portrait shots of the Queen and her kin, but actually the gallery contains some fascinating glimpses into the history of the royals. With around 30 sets ranging from collections of shots of each of the royals, there are a few gems hidden in there too. A set titled ‘Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Early British Photography’ contains shots of Victoria and Albert from 1878. Unfortunately, comments are disabled (boo!) but this is probably…

Worst. Internet. Job. Ever.

Worst. Internet. Job. Ever.

The web is littered with tales of angry designers, coders and bloggers who just can’t get their due. Slaving in front of their screens, alone and unappreciated in their apartments, those heroes of the internet make the web as we know it run while getting almost no recognition for their tireless efforts. Oh, also: Those people are wimps and have it easy. Because we now have some insight into what must surely be not only one of the most difficult internet-related jobs around, but also one of the worst jobs period: an Internet Content Reviewer. The job is exactly what it sounds like: you get paid to review…

Yes, I

Yes, I'll Have The Chocolate Half-Caf Soy Mochaccino Hazelnut Frappe iPad, Please

It’s no secret that Apple is big in Japan. That everything is big in Japan is besides the point – Apple is really big in Japan, guys. The release of an Apple product is nothing short of a holiday, and the Japanese seemingly make Apple’s offerings a more standard way of life than we do, even here. Case in point – You’re looking at shots of ease, a cafe in Tokyo’s Marunouichi Building, which offers its patrons an iPad at every table. ‘So what?’ you scoff. ‘Best Buy has a ton of public iPads.’ And true enough, I’d reply. But be that as it may, not only do you get to sip your pretentious beverage while fingering your…

Viral Writing Analyzer Offers No Solace For The Literate

Viral Writing Analyzer Offers No Solace For The Literate

Assuming you’re down with this whole ‘the internet’ thing, you’ve probably tripped and fell over this I Write Like site in the last week or so. Thing’s gone viral as hell. I Write Like doesn’t play around – it does exactly what you’d expect, analyzing and comparing writing (presumably, your own) to that of famous authors. Hm? What’s that? Yeah, fine, you go try that out. You already clicked on this article anyway – really, my job is done. But seriously, I Write Like is not without its quirks. Written by Russian programmer Dmitry Chestnykh, IWL appears to have little to do with actual writing style….

Old Skool Super Mario, Old Skool Style

Old Skool Super Mario, Old Skool Style

Straight up awesome. The video says it all, so I won’t spell it out, but if you’ve ever played Super Mario then you’ll get a kick out of this. Plus, the fact that the guy is wearing a full on white tuxedo? High-larious….

Science Confirms, Once And For All: The Chicken Came First

Science Confirms, Once And For All: The Chicken Came First

We’ll get back to Googles and stuff in a few minutes – this is way, way, way more important. Doubtlessly you’ve wasted no less than several nights of your life, lying awake, debating in your head whether or not the chicken came first. Chickens come from eggs, though. Can’t have a chicken without one. But where the hell did the egg come from? Let’s be honest – this obsession is ruining your marriage. It’s ruining your marriage and you need to end this once and for all. But wait! Put the gun back in the drawer. There’s a better way: the question has been answered! It’s true – British researchers have done a…

Death-Fearing Millionaire Commissions Immortal Robot - No, Really

Death-Fearing Millionaire Commissions Immortal Robot - No, Really

If you’re not good and rested, take a nap before continuing with this article – because you’re never gonna sleep again. Bina and Martine Rothblatt are an extraordinarily wealthy couple concerned with human immortality. Martine is involved in the Terasem Movement, which explores immortality “via geoethical nanotechnology and personal cyberconsciousness.” In short, the Rothblatts are really keen on not dying. I don’t blame them – I too am pretty stoked about this whole ‘life’ thing I’ve got going on. In an attempt to immortalize herself for her partner, Bina has contracted Dave Hanson of Hanson…

Man Sues Facebook for 84% Ownership, Honestly Believes He Can Win

Man Sues Facebook for 84% Ownership, Honestly Believes He Can Win

Hey Zuckerberg, you’d better make way for Paul Ceglia. Who the hell is Paul Ceglia? Why, web designer / wood pellet distributor extraordinaire, of course. Apparently, Paul signed a contract in April 2003 to develop thefacebook.com, for which he would be paid $1000 and 50% share in the company, with an additional 1% share per day until the work was completed. All told, Paul Ceglia should (according to him) currently own 84% of Facebook. Yeah, Paul, and I should own 77% of Google. But I don’t. Because I didn’t design it. The fact that Ceglia is bringing this up seven years after the fact calls into question…
