Sony Wants Your Scrap Electronics

When you purchase a new car these days, a lot of companies offer potential buyers incentives like money back for their old vehicle or other trade-in options. Sony has jumped on the bandwagon and started a new ‘scrapping’ program to try and create added interest in their products, as well as cut down on the amount of TVs and other electronics are left in landfills. Sony is going even further with their new campaign – old items don’t even have to be made by Sony. That’s a pretty sweet deal. Take in any worn out, old, or not working electronic and have cash to use toward a new purchase. Accepted items include…

3D views of New York City using Google Earth.

3D views of New York City using Google Earth.

Ever had a dream to walk through Times Square in New York City, but could never really find the money to get you there? Google has recently added high quality street level photos to its Google Earth application that will allow you to take a virtual 3D tour of the city from the comfort of your own home. I know its not the same as being there, but not only do you see images of what New York looks like, you feel as though you are the main character in a Grand Theft Auto video game while scouring through the city. Not sure if its the smooth jazz saxophones, or the stimulating drum beat playing throughout the video,…

LinkedIn Gets Little More Like Facebook

LinkedIn Gets Little More Like Facebook

Some may affectionately know LinkedIn as “Facebook for suits” in some quarters, but somehow the service has managed to keep growing within its business and professionally-focused segment. Now the social service has introduced a bevy of new sharing features for users. LinkedIn is likely aiming to ensure its users can now use the service to share news and information pertinent to their business interests, just like Facebook, though perhaps a little easier to explain to the boss. After all, it is business-related… Eight in all, the new features include the addition of image and article…

Alan Kay Notebook Guru Takes Scratch To Apple

Alan Kay Notebook Guru Takes Scratch To Apple

He may have predicted that Apple’s iPad would ‘rule the world’, but the man who invented the notebook concept isn’t happy with Steve Jobs at the moment. Alan Kay is one of the great heroes of the technological revolution we’re still experiencing today. So much so that when Apple introduced the iPad, Jobs took pains to send Kay one as a personal gift. But it isn’t the product that Kay has a problem with – it’s Apple’s determination to control what developers do with it. Apple last week changed the terms of its deal with developers, introducing new clauses which forbid iPhone apps from…

Adobe Pans Its Flash For iPhone Backdoor Plan

Adobe has ceased development of its tools to export Flash content into a format suitable for the iPhone. “We will still be shipping the ability to target the iPhone and iPad in Flash CS5,” said Adobe’s Mike Chambers. “However, we are not currently planning any additional investments in that feature.” Apple CEO Steve Jobs has previously slammed Adobe as “lazy” and Flash as unsuitable for use on mobile devices. Apple has not enabled Flash playback on the iPhone, pushing the open HTML 5 standard instead. Adobe’s announced cessation of development follows Apple’s decision…

Put your photos in the ring and watch them fight.

Put your photos in the ring and watch them fight.

Finally, a way for photographers to get their hands dirty and feel tough. Photobattle.me is a way to submit your photographs, sit back, and cheer from behind your monitor as the public chooses the best photo. This application, developed by Kyle Fox, will allow you to submit nine photos of your choice and will randomly put them up against another photo. If you are one of those indecisive people, and can’t choose which photo you like better or don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, there is a “SKIP BATTLE” button you can press and move onto the next battle. I guess it would be comparable to the “NEXT” button…
