University of South Carolina Startup Creates an App a Week

Creating a new app every week might seem impossible to even the most ambitious app developers. However, 52apps, a startup based out of the University of South Carolina, has set the goal of creating 52 iPhone/iPad apps over the course of a year, and they’re pretty sure they can actually accomplish this goal. Let concerts find you with the SongKick app

Let concerts find you with the SongKick app

Music soothes the soul and it is something we can all relate to, we love a good tune to turn the volume on high and dance like a crazy person even when we are all alone. A song can trigger a memory and take you back to a person or a place in its very first notes. We all have our favorite genres and artists and we want to stay in the know when they are in our area so we can see them LIVE. Time spent trying to check out tour dates to only find that they are not playing in your location can be a real bummer. However, there is a way for you to let concerts of artists you want to see find you. …

The one thing I would change about the G+ app

The one thing I would change about the G+ app

I could go on for days about the Facebook app, but since their latest update the app has been less annoying and that means less time spent on waiting for it to load, so I seriously can’t complain right now. However, there is one thing I wish would change about the Google Plus app. I enjoy G+ although it has caused many discussions about its social capabilities and whether it is a ghost town or not, truth is, it is a great social site and with Google’s SEO the two will be the future. With that said, I enjoy the most recent update to G+ that happened a few months back; its flipboard like feature, the easy abilities…

The Key to Windows 8 Success: It’s the Apps

The Key to Windows 8 Success: It’s the Apps

It’s an app world. The success of iOS and Android (as well as the lack of success for Blackberry and others) can be directly attributed to the way that apps have taken over our daily lives. The abundance of tools and games on a platform directly influences how well they will be adopted. Microsoft knows this and is going full-steam ahead with the concept as they prepare to launch Windows 8. At every level of the operating system, they hope to load it up with the degree of apps that have helped the competition succeed in recent years. To do so, they need adoption from developers. They have held various…

Is DNA coding your data the future of stored information?

Is DNA coding your data the future of stored information?

Recently on Spectrum, Scientists from Harvard University have successfully converted a 53,000 word book into a single strand of DNA. The success of the conversion will allow data to be stored in the guise of a DNA strand; DNA can hold more information per cubic millimeter than certain flash memory technology. Scientists claim that the cycle of conversion, from coding to decoding, would prove to be an expensive process initially but those needing a large quantity of data might find the means to make this technology more affordable in the future. Imagine. Universities around the globe can store…

The complex process of the Google search, simplified

The complex process of the Google search, simplified
