A solar powered robotic Transformer

A solar powered robotic Transformer

Transformer toys have been cool since the 80’s; they have been a uni-sex toy that has caught the attention of both girls and boys. Now, you can teach your kids how cool Transformers are with an educational touch by teaching them about solar power too. …

Dear Congress: End warrantless email monitoring immediately

Dear Congress: End warrantless email monitoring immediately

We were so close. A non-controversial bill,  the Video Privacy Protection Act, flew through the Senate and was sent to President Obama last week. The bill itself isn’t important; it allows people using services like Netflix to post the movies that they were watching directly from the service onto Facebook and other social media sites just as they can do now with music sites like Spotify. This is currently against the law because of legislation from 1988 when Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork’s video rental history was leaked. That’s not the important part. What was important was that a section…

iPad finger painting of a cat (timelapsed video)

iPad finger painting of a cat (timelapsed video)

Having the ability to paint is pretty impressive within itself, not everyone has the creative gene. Watching an idea go from thought to art is an amazing process to witness and even more so when someone can turn a photograph of a real cat and finger paint it on an iPad artistically is simply a mind-blowing experience. …

Transferring information via a wireless USB thumb

Transferring information via a wireless USB thumb

We are provided with an overwhelming amount of information daily, especially on paper and as we have grown to learning online and in real-time, no one wants to sit down anymore and read packets of paper, even if it is deemed important. IntelliPaper has a solution that is not only good for the environment; it is futuristic and available now. intelliPaper has created a patented technology that is not only printable but digital data as well. Its purpose is to eliminate mounds of paper into a single strip of paper that when folded can be inserted into a USB port which will then transfer the necessary data…

By catering only to big brands, @Klout is reducing its usefulness

By catering only to big brands, @Klout is reducing its usefulness

Every few months, it seems that Klout makes changes to try to bring its importance to a higher level and push itself into the mainstream consciousness. Every few months, the changes that Klout makes push them further into obscurity and away from mainstream consciousness because they try too hard to appeal to the people that simply don’t care. When they do this, they reduce the very thing that could actually make them better known and talked about more often: overall usefulness. The last algorithm change seemed to set “caps” on how “influential” people could be based upon their position in the real…

Should we teach the wrong things to children because it

Should we teach the wrong things to children because it's easier to understand?

It’s no secret. We love Minute Physics. They have a way of taking complex ideas and dumbing them down to our level so that we don’t have to go to school to study quantum mechanics to understand some of the most important components that affect our daily lives. This time, they did something they normally don’t do. They made us think, not just about the science at hand but more importantly about a moral efficiency challenge facing many schools. Some concepts are hard to understand. There are false but “close enough” concepts that often cover the ideas and give us a decent understanding of what is happening…

Global cyberwarfare is civilization

Global cyberwarfare is civilization's greatest threat

The depths to which cyberwarfare has grown is one of the most controlled and guarded secrets in most of the major governments around the world. The United States, China, Israel, Russia, England, Japan, Iran, Germany – these are just some of the countries that have been revealed to be researching and participating in “cyberops” over the last few years. It can be assumed that what we know doesn’t even scratch the surface. A recent revelation that the NSA’s “Perfect Citizen” program is designed to explore both defensive and offensive tactics surrounding energy infrastructure and the cyberattacks…

A look at 3 ghosts of startups past

A look at 3 ghosts of startups past

It takes more than having great ideas to make a startup work. It has become a part of Silicon Valley culture to understand that being first and blazing a trail may not be the best path to success. Some companies such as 3DFX Interactive, Napster, and Wang Laboratories began and built amazing technologies that would eventually become huge components of many of our lives, yet didn’t last to see their dreams fulfilled. Others stepped in and made it happen. Let’s take a look at their stories below. Thanks to Visually and Milwaukee Ford Dealers for pointing this infographic from Total Bankruptcy out…

Gravitational time dilation in layman

Gravitational time dilation in layman's terms

Understanding the physical natural of time has been something that physicists have struggled with and debated over since before Einstein brought into mainstream scientific reasoning. It’s difficult for those without a degree in physics to comprehend moving at different speeds based upon the relative position and speed of travel of the observer, but it’s been proven time and time again (pun intended). This video by Chuck Missler at Koinonia House breaks it down for us nicely. Rather than talking over the listener, he explains it in hypothetical and real world terms that won’t put (most) people…

Movable floors that turn into swimming pools

Movable floors that turn into swimming pools

We have become heavy duty space savers, even if we have the money to afford luxurious homes, we want to make the most out of all the space we have, besides it’s kind of neat when you can show off a hidden door or two, but what about a floor that turns into a swimming pool? …

This presentation is brought to you by…

I truly enjoy the “When you see it images” and of course more so when it showcases anything to do with the tech world, much like this one. So, Microsoft looks to be giving a presentation but can you see what makes this photo want you to face palm for them? Once I saw it, I was like ‘DOH’ and then I began thinking, did they not think that someone would snap a shot of this and share it on the web? I don’t know how serious I would have taken this presentation if I had caught this as one of the attendees but it sure makes for a funny and interesting photo….
