A couple of months ago, rumours and speculations started to surface about a revised version of the iPhone 4 being released which fixes the notorious dropped call antenna issue. A Mexican carrier Telcel seemed to suggest that this was the case and that the fix was due to coincide with the end of the free bumper program (September 30th). AntennaGate continues, and Apple is determined to alienate every single other mobile tech company in the world in order to prove that its iPhone 4 antenna really isn’t that big a deal. With the Blackberry Bold 9700, HTC Droid Eris and Nokia N97 mini already displayed on their “we’re no worse than anyone else, honest!” page, it was only a matter of time before Apple got hold of a Droid X and tried to figure out how hard they had to grip it to kill the antenna signal. As Toby mentioned yesterday, Apple is pretty adamant that the signal problem isn’t their fault, citing in yesterday’s press conference that the problem is not only equally common to all phones, but that the iPhone 4 itself isn’t even experiencing much of an issue. Apple’s big press conference is on now, and apparently Apple’s plan is to rag on other phone manufacturers and prove beyond a doubt that the hysterics surrounding the iPhone 4 antenna issue are being overblown. According to Apple, only 0.55% of all iPhone 4 buyers called to talk to tech support about an antenna issue. The return rate for the iPhone 4 is lower than for the 3GS, which had zero known hardware issues. According to AT&T, the iPhone 4 drops only 1 more call per 100 calls than the 3GS.
