Poor ThinkGeek. Between mounting pressure to develop the iCade and now this, it’s a wonder they bother to participate in April Fool’s Day at all. If you were doing your internet thing this April 1st – and I certainly hope you were – you no doubt are privy to Canned Unicorn Meat, the “sparkling, crunchy, savory meat of today’s elite”. Seriously, I sat here for, like, three minutes trying to come up with a better description than that one, but let’s face it. There isn’t one. Anyway, all is not well – the National Pork Board, owners of the slogan ‘the other white meat’, have issued ThinkGeek a cease and desist….

Oh no! A server malfunction has left Gmail vowel-less since around 6am this morning, Pacific Time. During routine maintenance at a Google datacenter, the letter ‘a’ disappeared for a number of users. Spreading quickly amongst users, Google’s help forum was filled with complaints from confused and worried Gmailers. Thankfully, Google engineers were able to limit the damage, protecting consonants (and apparently even the letter Y!), leaving only the letters A, E, I, O and U missing. Google has ‘vowel-ed’ to resolve the problem as quickly as possible and return the home page to normal. Happy…

Last year, when YouTube decided to Rickroll all its users – i.e. send all video links to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna’ Give You Up” – there was a sense that April Fool’s pranks in the tech world had reached their peak. How could anyone top the ultimate self-referential prank that took a universal web joke and ‘made it official’? But if this morning is any indication, that’s far from the case. In fact, it seems that the blogosphere is positively lit-up with hundreds and thousands of stories claiming to be true, but are most definitely not. Google changing their name to Topeka? YouTube introducing ‘TEXTp’?…

We did get insurance on this thing, right? We will miss Sunken, our luxury yacht that provided us numerous hours of joy and fun.  We can’t help but recall the star-filled nights with only the moon to guide us and the bright sun-shiny days that forced us to layer on the sunscreen. We lost her far too soon… Whoops. You weren’t supposed to see that! Ah, darn, the secret is out — okay, so this isn’t our yacht, and it obviously has a design flaw (or feature) built into it. You see, some guys with some creativity (or insanity) decided they would build a yacht that gave the impression that it sinking to the deep…
