Where have our mobile manners gone?

Where have our mobile manners gone?

There is a growing problem in society. Once upon a time in the distant past (about 2 or 3 years ago) it was considered rude to do things such as text during class, while driving, or even during sex. Unfortunately, our addiction to the little devices in our pockets has made many of us begin to ignore the old cellular taboos that kept us polite, focused, and safer. To many, it has gotten completely out of hand. To others, it’s just a fact of life, a natural transition to a world where nothing is too sacred to exclude the use of cell phones. There’s a reason why 1 in 5 people have dropped their cell phone in the toilet….

The announcement of the Verizon iPhone launching next month has a lot of people considering changing providers. Some are thinking of switching to Verizon to get their iPhone. U.S. Government Considers Killing Cell Phones While Driving

U.S. Government Considers Killing Cell Phones While Driving

Stupidity aside, the U.S. government has long been looking for ways to reduce the amount of accidents on the road. The latest of which has been to ban texting while driving. Many states are pushing for this to become law, and some have been successful. But now there is an even more extreme idea being tossed around in our government. This one involves blocking the use of cell phones entirely while driving. And yes, this is a serious possibility. The U.S. Department of Transportation already sees this cell phone blocking technology as a reality. “I think the technology is there,” said Raymond LaHood,…

Cellphone-Wielding Time Traveler Spotted In Charlie Chaplin Film

Cellphone-Wielding Time Traveler Spotted In Charlie Chaplin Film

I’ve been engaged in a hot debate over the last hour with a friend of mine over just what this is. Seems like Irish filmmaker George Clarke has discovered a time traveler in footage from the 1928 premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s The Circus. In the scene, the alleged time traveler walks across the screen, clearly speaking into… well, who knows? In 1928, there certainly weren’t any eletronic devices that portable, much less ones designed specifically for communication. It’s hard to believe, but after seeing the footage, it’s hard to believe anything else. Check out George’s video, and weigh in….

Texting On The Rise In North America

Texting On The Rise In North America

The trend towards cell phones as general communications devices continues, as a report from the Nielsen Company (yeah, that Nielsen Company) shows that more teens are typing it rather than speaking it. Between April and June 2010, teens from 13 to 17 sent or received more than six text messaged each waking hour, equivalent to around 3,400 texts per month. Girls are ahead of boys, with around 4000 monthly texts and boys only averaging around 2500. At the same time, voice calls were down 14%. Data usage is also on the rise, with browser and email usage rising from an average of 14mb per month to around…

Has Talking On A Cell Phone Become A Taboo?

Has Talking On A Cell Phone Become A Taboo?

When was the last time you had a lengthy chat with someone on the phone? A few weeks? Months? Years, even? Well, if it’s been a while, you can rest assured that you are not the only one. But it should make us wonder if the the future of one-on-one communication will rest solely on our thumbs. You’ve probably seen teens and adults alike texting away on their phones. It’s seemingly an infectious, zombie-like trend. They text while in school (unproductive, I know). They text while in the movie theaters (annoying, I know). They text while driving (dangerous, I know). They are taking over! Silence!…

AT&T To Start Providing Real Phone Service, Only $150 + All Normal Costs

Customers of AT&T will soon be able to buy into an option that makes the phone work the way it’s supposed to, for the one-time low price of $150.
