It's Official: 'The Internet Is Over', Says Prince

He may have written some classic hits, but Prince has no ‘Kiss’ to give in his latest ‘Purple Rain’ of vitriol against ‘teh internets’, which the diminutive pop star says ‘is finished’. Is this a ‘Sign of the Times’, or simply an attempt by the artist to propel sales of his latest album, 20TEN, which isn’t going to be made available in shops, instead it is to be given away in the UK with copies of the Daily Mirror. Speaking to the Mirror, Prince slammed, like, this whole Internet thing, saying it is over, finished, dead, last year’s number. At the risk of being a rock ‘n’ roll…

Doors Open On Google

Doors Open On Google's iTunes-Killing Music Plan

Google seems set to stick it to iTunes in an attempt to carve out its own slice of the music market, hoping that by linking music sales up with its dominant search engine it will be able to achieve a content ecosystem designed to support sales of devices powered by its browser-based Android-one-day-Chrome OS. The company is thought to be closing in on launching a music download service, offering tracks for sale and download. This will be followed by the introduction of a subscription-based music service next year (2011), at least, that is what the Wall Street Journal claims. Negotiations aren’t…

Nirvana Revenge In Bloom For iPhone

The tragic Kurt Cobain might have left us but this doesn’t mean Nirvana’s record label don’t continue to seek out new opportunities to make money from the artist’s legacy — now it seems Tapulous has inked a deal to bring a dedicated Nirvana game to the iPhone. Songs will include Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are and Heart Shaped Box plus some live numbers from a UK rock festival. The app should be available later this week for $4.99 via the App Store. There’s a Bluetooth…

Spotify Gets Social With Music In The Cloud

Spotify Gets Social With Music In The Cloud

Spotify has introduced a host of new social networking features and moved to protect itself against rumored future iTunes features. Spotify’s new library feature lets users store music collections on Spotify, simply by importing any MP3 on your drive to the Spotify library. While this doesn’t mean your tracks are uploaded to the service, it does mean you end up being able to access it using any Spotify-compatible device – leave your tracks at home. Built on the back of Facebook Connect, Spotify users will now be able to connect to their Facebook page and import friends from their profile who…

iTunes Makes Facebook Connect Connection

iTunes Makes Facebook Connect Connection

iTunes keeps cosying-up to Facebook, the world’s largest social network. Now it seems Apple plans to support Facebook Connect, enabling a wave of networking opportunities for music fans. Apple has been promoting iTunes through Facebook for ages. Its UK iTunes Festival last year offered free tickets, music and other promotions to customers via Facebook, and in the US the iTunes team have been developing its own Facebook presence, adding polls, featured items and more. Integration between Facebook and iTunes already lets you share songs on iTunes via Facebook, though this only lets you…
