10 celebrities with surprisingly advanced college degrees

It’s easy to think of celebrities as people with so much money and so few brains. As it turns out, some of those celebrities have advanced degrees that will make you eat your words. You probably had no idea that these celebrities had so much smarts between their ears.   Ken Jeong? That’s Doctor Ken Jeong to you Ken Jeong earned his introduction to celebrity status by portraying a crass Asian in The Hangover. He solidified that reputation with his outrageous role on the brilliant, but cancelled, Community. Well, guess what? Jeong isn’t just a potty mouth who likes to take his shirt off and strut…

What happens on the internet every minute?

What happens on the internet every minute?

In 60 seconds, Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, and their friendly carjacking cohorts can boost a high-dollar ride for sale to their fictional employer/nemesis. This is nothing compared to the things that happen on the web in any given 60 second period. The folks over at ixtract put together a visualization that demonstrates some of the millions of activities that happen on the internet every minute. They include: 12 websites hacked 14 Spotify songs uploaded 20 victims of identity theft 50 blogs created 70 domains registered 100 LinkedIn accounts created 320 Twitter accounts created 411 Facebook…

What the President

What the President's Google+ page tells us about the network

President Barack Obama’s team is very active on social media. The Facebook page that carries his name has new posts twice a day on average with a mix of hopeful messages, political statements, and personalized views into life at the White House. On Twitter, they post several times a day with links, pictures, and quotes from the President. Google+ is a different story. It was only mildly active during the election campaign. After a peak of 19 posts in August, 2012, it started falling off quickly. In September, there were 11 posts followed by 5 in October. November, the month of the election, saw two…

You can

You can't eat it, but that doesn't make this sushi made of LEGO less epic

Most people have heard of Iron Chef, the show that pits two master chefs and their teams against each other in a battle of culinary creativity. The get a secret ingredient at the beginning of the show and have one hour to serve up a sudden masterpiece to the judges. The Flickr version of this is Iron Builder which takes the rules of Iron Chef and spins them on their heads to fit in with LEGO creations. According to the Flickr page, here are the rules: The basic rules of the contest require that the two builder’s receive a batch of the ‘secret ingredient’ part. Head of Flickr Bails: Another Reason Why Facebook Should Buy Them

Matthew Rothenberg, the man who most believed ran Flickr for Yahoo!, announced his departure in a Tweet today. He was there when before Yahoo! bought it and he was the last leader in the company to remain. While Yahoo! said in a press release that it was a “personal decision,” there is speculation that Rothenberg and others are leaving Yahoo! properties because of the future of the company. With so many services entering into the realm of their “sunset” at Yahoo!, who could blame them? Why Facebook Should Buy Them Clearly, Flickr has its flaws. Facebook has its limitations. Adding Flickr into the…

Wanna See Flickr's 5 Billionth Photo?

It’s always cool when a totally big-ass milestone is hit on something, sort of like Twitter’s 20 billionth tweet, which… well, I… posted about it awhile ago, but for the life of me, can’t find. Whatever. It was a boring tweet anyway. It’s just cool to nose in on the big milestones, whatever they may be. And that’s exactly what this is: Flickr’s 5 billionth photo, uploaded by user Aaron Yeo – a view of the Woodward’s building in Vancouver, Canada. According to Media Culpa, a blog that has enough time on its hands to track these stats, Flickr adds about a billion photos per year. So, with that in mind,…

The Queen Is On Flickr

The Queen Is On Flickr

We are not amused. The royal family now has a Flickr account to add to their Twitter account and YouTube channel. While you may think the shared photos might be boring, portrait shots of the Queen and her kin, but actually the gallery contains some fascinating glimpses into the history of the royals. With around 30 sets ranging from collections of shots of each of the royals, there are a few gems hidden in there too. A set titled ‘Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Early British Photography’ contains shots of Victoria and Albert from 1878. Unfortunately, comments are disabled (boo!) but this is probably…
