Well, it’s certainly about time. Nintendo has confirmed that the rumoured ‘Project Café’ – the whispered-of successor to the rapidly-aging Wii – will be playable at E3, and on shelves in 2012. Sporting a 6-inch touchscreen on each controller, Project Café’s aim is allegedly to bring more freedom to the concept of the home console, and to take the gamer’s focus off the idea of a console as a plastic box tethered to a television set. Let me make this perfectly clear: I love Mortal Kombat. “Flawless victory” was constantly echoed from my room when I was younger as I destroyed all who stood in my way. So imagine my happiness when I learned that Warner Bros decided that it was time to bring back the series, and not only that, but they were going to market the new game with a live-action web series that would span nine episodes. Apparently it is, according to creative hacker who gutted an original Nintendo NES cartridge, purchased some parts, stuck ‘em inside, and managed to create a working Nintendo NES console out of it all.
