Mario Kart 3D debut trailer brings back memories

Mario Kart 3D debut trailer brings back memories

With all of the hype surrounding E3 and the new technologies, improving systems, and stunning games, it’s easy to miss one of the most important (for old gaming geeks like myself) games to be previewed at the event. Many hours have been spent by millions of people around the world on the Mario Kart franchise. The latest and (hopefully) greatest variation, Mario Kart 3D, launched its debut trailer at E3 yesterday. Here’s it is in its complete HD glory. Underwater, over land, and in the sky – Mario Kart 3D looks like a winner. Hat tip to Machinima. …

Minehanger: When Minecraft meets Modern Warfare

Minehanger: When Minecraft meets Modern Warfare

While we wait in anticipation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, MarianHak of Ozi has put together some gamer geek folly to tide us over (for at leat 11 minutes, 47 seconds). Built in Minecraft and starring Modern Warfare 2 characters Roach and Soap, this project took “a few months” to make. It was worth the wait. At least it’s not a Black Ops mashup. …

Modern Warfare 3 trailer released

Modern Warfare 3 trailer released

Despite being surrounded by tons of controversy and doubts about its launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is getting the hype machine going for their launch in November. Here’s the first full trailer for the highly-anticipated game release. There aren’t a ton of details available about the story line, but this at least gives us a couple of clues. It’s not going to be a large country that starts the hostilities (Russia was the enemy in WM2) and it’s going to be staged in large cities rather than the small ones associated with previous titles. The excitement is building. Are you ready? …

Angry Birds invades Spain, and nothing you can do will stop it

Angry Birds invades Spain, and nothing you can do will stop it

I was previously one of those guys who argued that Angry Birds was incredibly overhyped, but I realize now that there is no getting away from it. No matter what you or I do, Angry Birds are going to be flying, screaming, and destroying pigs wherever we go. So we might as well embrace it; we know the Spaniards are….

The console you never knew you wanted

The console you never knew you wanted

YouTubist EdsJunk wants to build you an Xbox Slim laptop – and he’s not above charging you hard-earned sweetcoin to do it. For $1600, Ed will build you a rough-n-tumble unit, perfect for playing Streeet Fighter 4 on the road. That might seem pretty expensive, but just look at this thing. A thing of beauty, it is. A 17-inch HD screen (720p), 4 USB ports, and a built-in power brick make this one styling unit. But check it: for the much more affordable price of $200, Ed will take YOUR Xbox and mod it into one of these. If that isn’t the coolest, you don’t know what’s up. Just watch this video and tell me you couldn’t…

Wii successor set to take E3 by storm

Wii successor set to take E3 by storm

Well, it’s certainly about time. Nintendo has confirmed that the rumoured ‘Project Café’ – the whispered-of successor to the rapidly-aging Wii – will be playable at E3, and on shelves in 2012. Sporting a 6-inch touchscreen on each controller, Project Café’s aim is allegedly to bring more freedom to the concept of the home console, and to take the gamer’s focus off the idea of a console as a plastic box tethered to a television set. There are no plans for 3D, because 3DTVs haven’t caught on yet (smart move), but beyond that, there are still very few details. What details there are, though, can be viewed…

Portal 2 ships earlier than expected, destroys productivity in the process

Portal 2 ships earlier than expected, destroys productivity in the process

Who doesn’t love an idea of jumping through portals to solve complicated puzzels? Not to mention the possibility of beating a game while running backwards in under 10 minutes. That’s what you get with the original Portal. But today it just got more interesting — Portal 2 is now available. Thanks to a challenge posted to Steam, which is Valve’s, the maker of Portal and Portal 2, digital distribution system, gamers had an opportunity to buy (for a heavily discounted price) and play a series of indie games in a collection called the “Potato Sack,” which was introduced on April 1. It was thought to be…

New Nintendo console in June? It

New Nintendo console in June? It's about time

Kotaku is reporting that Nintendo might be dialing up the awesome (finally) in preparation to debut a new console this year at E3 – a console that will apparently leapfrog both the Xbox 360 and PS3 in performance. And that wouldn’t be half bad – while the Wii was a smash hit upon its debut, who cares about motion controlled gaming now? You? If it’s you, I’m sorry. The Wii is sadly on its last legs; third party development is weak, motion control is dead(ish)… hell, the Wii doesn’t even have a hard drive or HD Out. These things do not a viable console make, and if the rumours are true, Nintendo’s about to…

Mortal Kombat live-action web series makes its debut

Mortal Kombat live-action web series makes its debut

Let me make this perfectly clear: I love Mortal Kombat. “Flawless victory” was constantly echoed from my room when I was younger as I destroyed all who stood in my way. So imagine my happiness when I learned that Warner Bros decided that it was time to bring back the series, and not only that, but they were going to market the new game with a live-action web series that would span nine episodes. Well, today marks the premier of the first episode. It’s only 12 minutes long, but it a great watch that leaves you wanting more. Follow the nine-part series here….

NES System Within A Cartridge? Is That Physically Possible?

NES System Within A Cartridge? Is That Physically Possible?

Apparently it is, according to creative hacker who gutted an original Nintendo NES cartridge, purchased some parts, stuck ‘em inside, and managed to create a working Nintendo NES console out of it all. In fact, you actually stick a cartridge within a cartridge. It’s nothing short of amazing. I would so buy one of these in a heartbeat….

Proof That The Game Console Is Dead

Proof That The Game Console Is Dead

What happens when you take an iPad 2, an iPad game, and a 50-inch HDTV and put them together? You get a mobile gaming experience that never looked so good. And when we say good, we mean really, really good! By utilizing the HDMI out potential with the iPad 2, a gamer is now enjoying the iPad 2 gaming experience on his 50-inch display. Not only that, but it looks so good. It’s all thanks in part to Infinity Blade, which is considered one of the best looking games on iOS. Considering the difficulties console makers and game developers have been experiencing lately, it must be even more disheartening for them…

Portal Fans, Here

Portal Fans, Here's a Sneak Peek of 2

The wildly popular game Portal on Steam had its sequel officially announced earlier this month. Now, we have a sneak peek of the game, courtesy of HotHardware who took some footage at PAX East. It is slated to be released on nearly all platforms on April 18th. Initially responses show that the game has the potential to deliver the way its blockbuster predecessor did. “Fans of the original Portal will no doubt recognize some of the gameplay elements, but the visuals have been enhanced significantly and some new items like the blue Repulsion Gel (among others) are being introduced,” said Dave Altavilla,…
