Lamborghini Veneno is named after a bull that killed a matador in 1914

Lamborghini Veneno is named after a bull that killed a matador in 1914

They say it’s going to be the fastest supercar, ever. They say it’s going to cost the three people who get to buy one $3.9M each. They say it can do 220 MPH, that it will have 750HP pushing its super light body, and that each of the three that are made will be red, green, or white to represent the Italian flag. What they aren’t so quick to point out is that the Lamborghini Veneno, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this week, was named after a bull that ended up killing a matador in 1914. When you put 750 HP behind a car that is designed to be extremely light, the namesake may end up being a precedent. It will…

The moment smart investors (claim to) have been waiting for: Facebook falls below $29

The moment smart investors (claim to) have been waiting for: Facebook falls below $29

After hitting the market hard, then getting hit hard by the market, Facebook’s tumultuous IPO has hit a new low, closing at $28.84 yesterday and losing more after hours to rest at $28.69. Some of the “smart money” made claims last week and before that they were going to wait until Facebook went south of $30 before buying. That time has come. Will they buy? The answer would probably be yes if it weren’t for foolish semi-confirmed reports that Facebook is building a phone. If the rumors turn out to be true, many will run from the risky endeavor which would take the virtual world of social media and add in…

Second time is (hopefully) a charm with HP putting Windows 8 on new tablet line

Second time is (hopefully) a charm with HP putting Windows 8 on new tablet line

HP has not had much luck in their early attempts at penetrating the tablet market after launching and subsequently canning their WebOS TouchPad in less than 2 months. They’re hoping that luck will change and they are officially making Windows 8 their operating system of choice after rumors surrounding the partnership were leaked last month. It will be comparable to the iPad but with minor improvements such as a thinner body and longer battery life to try to succeed where Android tablets have failed: cracking the full-size tablet market that Apple completely dominates. Rumors of a smaller iPad…

Netbook sales down 34% year over year. Can we call them dead, yet?

Netbook sales down 34% year over year. Can we call them dead, yet?

Less-useful than a laptop, less-awesome than a tablet, the netbook market has suffered the most in the past two years with the rise of the iPad (and other tablets, of course, but really let’s just blame Apple). Keyboards were the last real argument for the netbook over a tablet and most tablets have keyboard attachments that work just fine. With a 34% drop in Q1 2012 versus Q1 2011 marking the 6th consecutive drop for the waning product, can we call them dead, yet? In a press release by Canalys that was punctuated by the announcement that HP regained the top spot in PC sales over Apple by 40,000 units thanks…

Is HP double-dipping on an imminent Whitman announcement?

Is HP double-dipping on an imminent Whitman announcement?

Meg Whitman’s name has always done well in business. Despite not becoming governor of California, her career with eBay and other tech firms (including being on the board at Hewlett-Packard) has nearly always been accompanied by success. In short, she’s tech-firm gold. It’s no surprise that Whitman is being considered to take the top spot as CEO of HP. If she is indeed offered the position and accepts, there will be renewed buzz surrounding the company, one that has been relatively quiet for some time now (other than their failed incursion into the tablet market). She would be a strong leader and…
