Homelessness - There

Homelessness - There's An App For That

Tamagotchis never really carried any guilt, did they? You could let them die, and just hit reset. No biggie, right? iHobo is about to make you feel like utter crap for all the virtual pets you never saved, and then some. iHobo (yes, that’s its real name) is a free charity iPhone app that leaves you in charge of a virtual homeless person, but believe it or not, the app is not in bad taste – rather, it’s meant to call attention to the issue of homelessness at large. Well, actually, in the UK specifically, but the message is universal. iHobo takes up residence in your iPhone for three days, and it’s up to you to…

iPad Logic: Why You Need The Dropbox App

iPad Logic: Why You Need The Dropbox App

If you’re one of those new million iPad owners then you need to know about Dropbox for iPad. This free app is the missing link if you want to use your iPad for some light business. It works with the online Dropbox service, which offers you 2.2GB of free online storage. That storage syncs with your Mac or PC’s Home directory – where all your data sits – so you get access to all your most important files from wherever you happen to be. Dropbox on the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch lets you access those files. Better, if you have the right app it lets you open and work on those files. You can open a PowerPoint presentation…

Video: WiFi Sync Your iPhone With This App

The jury is out, the app has been submitted. WiFiSync lets you sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly. We’d love to see it win approval from the App Store team, it seems the software’s to be submitted this week. We’d be surprised if Apple allows it through….

Alan Kay Notebook Guru Takes Scratch To Apple

Alan Kay Notebook Guru Takes Scratch To Apple

He may have predicted that Apple’s iPad would ‘rule the world’, but the man who invented the notebook concept isn’t happy with Steve Jobs at the moment. Alan Kay is one of the great heroes of the technological revolution we’re still experiencing today. So much so that when Apple introduced the iPad, Jobs took pains to send Kay one as a personal gift. But it isn’t the product that Kay has a problem with – it’s Apple’s determination to control what developers do with it. Apple last week changed the terms of its deal with developers, introducing new clauses which forbid iPhone apps from…

Adobe Pans Its Flash For iPhone Backdoor Plan

Adobe Pans Its Flash For iPhone Backdoor Plan

Adobe has ceased development of its tools to export Flash content into a format suitable for the iPhone. “We will still be shipping the ability to target the iPhone and iPad in Flash CS5,” said Adobe’s Mike Chambers. “However, we are not currently planning any additional investments in that feature.” Apple CEO Steve Jobs has previously slammed Adobe as “lazy” and Flash as unsuitable for use on mobile devices. Apple has not enabled Flash playback on the iPhone, pushing the open HTML 5 standard instead. Adobe’s announced cessation of development follows Apple’s decision…

Apple Claims To Own The Word

Apple Claims To Own The Word 'Pad'

Apparently, Apple boss Steve Jobs now claims his company owns the trademark on the word ‘Pad’. This news follows Apple’s move last week to demand app developer Chris Ostmo remove the word ‘Pad’ from the name of his two products, journalPad and journalPad Bible Edition. Ostmo received a terse email from the App Store team telling him to make these changes. The upset developer then wrote a personal plea to Jobs asking for clarification as to the policy, particularly as so many developers had originally shoved a ‘Pad’ suffix into their App names in advance of the iPad launch…he didn’t…

If I Had Three iPhones, I

If I Had Three iPhones, I'd Be Singing Too

And, to your left, we have an adorable young girl phonetically recreating last year’s Beyonce hit with the help of three iPhones. My biggest question has nothing to do with her musical ability (which is reasonably superb, by the by), but more to do with how the hell she can afford three iPhones, much less their bills. Okay, yeah, maybe they’re iPod Touches. Whatever. Just watch the video. [Via CrunchGear]…

iPod-Controlled Pontiac? There's An App For That...

[blip.tv ?posts_id=3366836&dest=-1] If you’re trying to freak out the car pool or earnestly seeking out the ultimate remote control, then do take a little time out to check this really rather good iPod touch-controlled muscle car. Dave Phipps did the deed to make this petrolhead’s remote control dream, setting the system up to control his 1969 Pontiac GTO. Enjoy the clip. …
