iPad 2 Jailbroken Already, Of Course

iPad 2 Jailbroken Already, Of Course

I believe it was poet William Smith who once quipped ‘you can’t stop the bum rush’. Then, I believe, he invited us to the wild, wild west. The bum rush (a term the definition of which I have yet to truly divine) in question here is oft-noted iPhone hacker and developer Comex, who has (perhaps predictably) already jailbroken the iPad 2. You might remember Comex from such helpful jailbreaks as JailbreakMe and Spirit – then again, as figures so far suggest 70% of all iPad 2 buyers are first-timers, maybe you mightn’t. Anyway, no word on when the hack will be released into the wilds, but while you wait, here’s…

Apple TV Jailbroken

Apple TV Jailbroken

It was only a matter of time, but one of the teams responsible for iPhone jailbreaking has hinted on Twitter that the new Apple TV is jailbreakable. Apparently there has been some discussion about the Apple TV, with many wondering it runs iOS, and if the version is similar or identical to that of the iPhone and iPad. The firmware used in the Apple TV is available online from Apple’s public servers, and two members of the iPhone Dev Team have confirmed that the SHAtter exploit is able to decrypt the Apple TV’s firmware keys. The other big news is that with Apple TV running iOS, the likelihood is that Apple…

Patent Shows How Apple Might Brick Your Jailbroken iPhone

Patent Shows How Apple Might Brick Your Jailbroken iPhone

Jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod or iPad might now be legal in some areas of the world, but Apple still ain’t happy about it. A new patent shows how Apple might one day be able to detect and disable compromised devices. The patent, which is elaborate and lengthy, posits that devices which are lost, stolen or hacked are a risk to users peace of mind, and for this reason Apple hopes to kindly disable the hacks or even brick the device. The source of the issue is that while users may choose to hack their device, the jailbreak methods are all essentially taking advantage of security flaws. Apple views jailbreaks…

iPhone 4 Jailbroken - And It

iPhone 4 Jailbroken - And It's Legal!

It was only a matter of time before one of those hacker types released a jailbreak for the iPhone 4, but this time they’re really rubbing Apple’s nose in it. Since the US Library of Congress established a week ago that jailbreaking your iPhone is legal, it’s now simpler than ever – simply browse to www.jailbreakme.com on your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad, and follow the simple instructions. The jailbreak even states on the screen “jailbreak to get tweaks and apps Apple won’t allow in the App Store. Free, legal, safe”. The hack comes courtesy of Comex and his group. Some issues are being reported by early…

Apple Peel Transforms Your iPod Touch Into An iPhone... Assuming It Exists

Apple Peel Transforms Your iPod Touch Into An iPhone... Assuming It Exists

Isn’t the iPod Touch the worst, guys? It’s an iPhone for all intents and purposes, save the notable exception of, y’know… the phone part. That’s gotta be frustrating. Enter the Apple Peel 520. Developed by a company fit to call itself Yosion, the Apple Peel is a fancy hack which attempts to do the impossible: turning your (presumably jailbroken) iPod Touch into… well, not an iPhone proper, but close enough. Retailing for a rumoured Â¥300 – Â¥500 ($44 – $74), the case allegedly also acts as a beefed up battery (800mAh) to account for all the calls you’ll be making. That is, of course, if you’ll be…

Adobe Flash? On MY iPad? More Likely Than You Think

Adobe Flash? On MY iPad? More Likely Than You Think

Alright, alright, calm down – no, Big Steve still gets all frowny when you mention Adobe. But assuming you have a jailbroken iPad (I would), Flash can finally be yours with Frash. From the folks that brought you the Spirit jailbreak, and running on a compatibility layer, Frash is… well, it’s Flash, with an R. Finally, that half of the internet you weren’t able to see while lazing on the couch doing that… iPad… thing… whatever people do with iPads. Tapping things? – is suddenly again rendered visible. Time to take back Robot Unicorn Attack. The release isn’t stable yet, so if you aren’t a developer,…

Apple iPad Is Already Jailbroken

Apple iPad Is Already Jailbroken

The Apple iPad has been jailbroken according to notorious hacker, MuscleNerd, who published this video showing the achievement. A member of the infamous iPhone Dev Team, the developer took just one day to crack Apple security, which he managed through use of a variant of the existing iPhone OS 3.1.3 jailbreak. Most jailbreaks use vulnerabilities either in Safari or the OS itself to grant unrestricted access, this is thought to have been the M.O. for this break-in. What’s it mean? For most of us, not too much, but if you want to install software other than that available from the App Store then…
