From a software perspective, Google has been doing very well. Their Android platform for smartphones is dominant and on tablets it’s been making its mark. Having the cleanest homepage on the internet has often been attributed to much of Google’s early success. Before they were the search engine, they competed against Yahoo, Microsoft Live, Alta Vista, and other portal sites that had ads, news, and just about everything else that one could fit onto a single website. Many have billed Google’s Nexus 7 as a clear competitor to the Amazon Kindle Fire. Same price point, same size screen. The comparisons can really end there, though. The big difference other than superior aesthetic is in the way the software performs.
