Microsoft has announced pricing and release dates for Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. After the preview a few weeks ago, Microsoft has announced that it’s Office for Mac software will be available for consumers in October. Pricing is predictably middle of the road, with the Home and Student version available for $119 and Office for Home and Business for $199 or $279 for two installs. An academic version is available for $99, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Messenger. Office for Mac 2011 is the first Mac version of Office to ship with Outlook rather than Entourage for email since…

Google Serves Microsoft on Their Official Blog

Google Serves Microsoft on Their Official Blog

The now Internet powerhouse Google used its blog today to call out Microsoft on its new open source 2010 Office suite. A day before Microsoft takes its Office 2010 suite out of beta; Matthew Glotzbach, Google Enterprise Product Management Director, has posted a blog entry urging Microsoft Office users to forget Office and use Google’s new upgrade, Google Docs. “If you choose this path, upgrade means what it’s supposed to mean: effortless, affordable, and delivering a remarkable increase in employee productivity,” writes Glozbach in his post earlier today. “This is a refreshing…

Microsoft Office 2010 is Free, Allowing More Users Than Ever to Make Ugly Powerpoint Presentations

Hey, you know Microsoft Office, that thing you’ve been downloading illegally for free all these years? It would seem that Microsoft’s finally catching up with the current state of computing – in June, they’ll be offering it for free, for real. In a move more than likely inspired by Google Docs’ sudden usefulness to people who want to be able to use one set of tools across the cloud, Microsoft will be releasing a free, ad-supported, online version of Office along side a more robust, un-free version in June. The hope is that, as approximately 90% of Office users are business users, they’ll prefer the…

A Tiny Box Office Release

A Tiny Box Office Release

The world is getting smaller, particularly in Japan where everything is tiny to begin with. Japanese designer Toshihiko Hazama wants to make it smaller still. The Box Office is almost exactly what the name suggests: An office in a box. But along the ‘less is more’ theme, there’s even less to this innovation than meets the eye. With features that would make Peter Gibbons sob like an infant, the Box Office will send you into Dilbert-esque fits of philosophical apathy at the mere idea of sitting down to crank out a few Excel spreadsheets. For a mere $1800, you could own one of these depressing state-of-the-art…

Transforming Workspace: Offices Might Never Be the Same

Transforming Workspace: Offices Might Never Be the Same

Transforming home decor has been a hot topic here on Techi. But when you are not busy transforming your carpet or your furniture, what is to be done about the typical workspace? Well, now it is time for the workplace to experience its own metamorphosis. These concept designs by Natalia Boublik were crafted with one goal: improve the workplace. They also manage to look pretty freaking cool too. The idea is that a workplace should be easily modified to suit the current needs of its employees. If, for example, you are working, you should be able to have your workspace situated that you can get information…

Office 2010 Stumbles Towards The Finish Line

Office 2010 Stumbles Towards The Finish Line

Lovers of barely functional, bloated and outdated software rejoice: Microsoft Office 2010 has been released to manufacturing and could be available as early as May 1st! The neolithic software title lumbers onwards, regardless of technological advancement and shifts towards cloud computing. So what does Microsoft have in store for users so behind the curve that Office is still a great choice? Well, they continue to dazzle us with ‘The Ribbon”, their confusing and bloated UI trainwreck. The Ribbon becomes more controllable in 2010, which should add to the amount of time and effort required…
