Oracle and Google continue their legal battle as their respective CEOs issue testimony.  Did Google’s Android OS use code ripped off from Java, owned by Oracle?  Also, Samsung and Apple continue their feud. Microsoft really wants more cloud Customer Relationship Management (CRM) clients and now they’re willing to pay for them. Medium-sized companies with between 50-500 users can receive $150 cash per user if they switch to their Dynamics CRM Online service and sign a 2-year licensing subscription. The offer is open to US and Canada customers only and runs for $44 per user per month. “We feel that Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online delivers the best CRM service in the market — and at an extremely compelling price point,” said Brad Wilson, a general manager with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM division. Most companies looked at the Mark Hurd scandal with distaste, but one company watching saw something great. After the weekend’s rumors, Oracle has hired disgraced HP CEO Mark Hurd. Hurd, coincidentally a good friend of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison will fill the co-president position formerly occupied by Charles Phillips, who himself is now looking for an industry crony willing to hire him. HP shares have dropped 13% amid the scandal. Oracle, a company who for the past decade seems to be known only for being relevant a decade ago is in the spotlight once again. Apparently Google’s Android operating system uses Java, a product of Sun Microsystems which Oracle purchased in 2009. Oracle claims Google “knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle’s Java-related intellectual property”, most likely hoping to scupper a “whoops, our bad” legal defense.
