Put your head on a Pez dispenser with a 3D printer

Put your head on a Pez dispenser with a 3D printer

Clever. Tasty. Creepy. Hot Pop Factory has been able to make a name for itself by generating creative pieces of jewelry using 3D printers. Now, they’ve used a neat hack with Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect system to scan a person’s head, print it out on a 3D printer, and put it on the top of a Pez dispenser. If you’ve ever wanted to distribute candy through a hole beneath a figure of your head on a stick, this is the way to do it. Check out the video of how they scan the heads through Kinect and some images of the finished results:  …

Apple To Try To Kill the Mouse (Again)?

Apple To Try To Kill the Mouse (Again)?

There’s really no reason to get up in arms every time an Apple patent is dissected, but this is particularly interesting – especially if you’re a die-hard fan of a good, sturdy mouse. In other words: if you hated the Magic Trackpad, you’re really gonna hate this. Apple is apparently looking into yet more options to kill the world’s favourite rodent-inspired electronic peripheral, and one of them is this hybrid motion-sensitive keyboard. Four sensors located around the keys track the motion of your right hand, which you wave around like a Mac magician, moving the cursor on-screen. Your left hand…

It's A Mouse! It's A Gamepad! It's Amazing!

Alright, so ‘amazing’ is hardly a claim I can make considering I haven’t actually given this device a try as of yet, but being your typical emulation freak, a quick gamepad solution like the Chameleon X-1 from Shogun Bros. looks like it could certainly be something to perform an elaborate song and dance number about. Cramming an entire operational gamepad into a mouse is no small feat, especially when said gamepad is located on the underside of the damn thing – for that, the brothers Shogun deserve a peek at my propers (and, assuming you’re impressed, yours). I especially like the dual PSP nubs – say…

Five Unsung PC Components That Made Our Lives Better

Five Unsung PC Components That Made Our Lives Better

Sitting in front of a modern, fancy laptop or blazing fast quad-core desktop, it can be easy to forget just how much technology has changed in the past few years. Your average computer is now full of incredible technology, much of which represents the refinement of ideas that began a long time ago. But like we often forget the bit players, artists and crew who make movies so amazing, we also sometimes forget the various parts and components that make our bits and bytes work better. And isn’t it about time we remembered some things that led to the incredible speed, power and ease our technology delivers…

Kreative Keyboards And Magical Mice

Kreative Keyboards And Magical Mice

If you use a Mac your keyboard is most likely aluminum or white. If you use a PC, your keyboard most likely cost around $8 and is either black or beige. Aren’t you fed up with staring at the exact same keyboard as everyone else, tapping away on the same boring plain lettered keys day in, day out? Keyscaper is aiming to spice up your typing time. These aren’t decals or stickers, these are actual keyboards and mice with crazy cool graphics printed directly onto them. These are probably only of interest to those who are capable of touch typing – if you had trouble picking out an apostrophe on your old beige keyboard,…

Mirror Mirror, On My Keyboard..

Mirror Mirror, On My Keyboard..

Nerds are a funny bunch – we don’t like daylight or exercise, or girls, for that matter. But we’re a growing demographic, and as the market grows there will obviously be some watering down of our key characteristics. Nerds who care about their appearance, embrace the great outdoors and associate willingly with the opposite sex are now commonplace, and with them comes some inevitable personality traits. This product is certainly aimed at the narcissistic nerd. Minebea Co wants nerds to care more about their appearance, and is taking active steps to help with their ‘Cool Leaf’ keyboard. Completely…

New Keyboard Design Promises To Waste Countless Hours of Your Time

New Keyboard Design Promises To Waste Countless Hours of Your Time

A true gentleman – a man who respects the finer things – realizes the value of slowing it down. Taking time out. Maybe have the manservant fix a beverage. Maybe take the Segway out to the patio. Maybe type an email. Maybe type it slowly. For this gentleman, designer Erik Campbell has developed a keyboard. What Campbell has designed is a jellyfish new take on the concept of the ‘chorded’ keyboard – chorded referring to music. Like you strum guitar strings in concert with each other, so too do you press the five buttons on Campbell’s keyboard to produce different characters. Frankly, I found 150…
