Sony’s PSN service is slowly coming back to life, much to the enjoyment of those who have been without online access from those with PS3s for several weeks. It will take some time for everything to be back to normal, but until then, Sony is giving away a slew of free PSN items and two free games to PSP and PS3 users to make up for their disaster. It would seem Sony is setting something of a double standard, taking an indirect dig at Apple in its latest PSP ad. Though the phone is never mentioned by name, it’s clear ‘Josh Rose’, apparently kidding himself, is bragging about having downloaded, er… ‘Game Castle’ on an iPhone (looks like tight graphics if I’ve ever seen them). The commercial goes on to essentially say that for $9.99, you could be getting far greater and more playable games than the typical iPhone fare. And guess what? It’s not wrong. There are rumours floating around, ever-increasing in intensity, that Sony Ericsson is gearing up to release an Android phone that ain’ never been seen before – one that will carry the PlayStation branding. Like a tech industry Tekken, Apple is clashing with almost everyone these days, from Google to Microsoft to Amazon and beyond. Now Sony feels the force as iPhone grabs the handheld gaming market. Flurry Analytics says Apple’s surpassed Sony PSP game revenue in the US, estimating the iPhone has seized 5 per cent of the lucrative $10 billion US games industry.
