The Last Tech Gadget You

The Last Tech Gadget You'll Ever Need?

Forget about HDTVs, PSPs, Macbooks, iPods, radios, cameras, camcorders, books, maps, and GPSs. We don’t need ‘em! We have everything our technology-loving hearts could ever desire in the palm of our hand — many call them smart phones, but they are far more than that. They are the makings of a technological revolution. However, it wasn’t always this way. For far too long we were constrained with devices that did one single thing: telephones ensured you would always stay connected with annoying family members, MP3 players enabled you to jam to Justin Timberlake, GPSs managed to get you…

Apple Makes Statement On iPhone 4 Signal Loss Flaw

Apple has admitted to a widely-reported problem in which millions of iPhone 4 units are likely to lose signal when gripped by the lower left corner, saying there’s nothing unusual about the flaw, illustrated in this video. In an official statement issued late last night after hundreds of customers reported the flaw, which particularly impacts left-handed users, the company issued the following widely-published statement. “Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas….

Android And iPhone Own The Smartphone Biz

Android And iPhone Own The Smartphone Biz

Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone are rapidly snatching smartphone share as the race to ascendancy sees the competition sent to casualty. The latest Gartner figures today tell us Android and iPhones are gobbling up the space. Between them they now account for 25 percent of the smartphone market (in Q1), up from 12 percent last year. The iPhone took 15.4 percent of the whole thing (up 5 points). Android is up 8 points to 9.6 per cent. What’s critical here is that all other smartphones lost relative share, though unit sales climbed. Android is now the fourth largest operating system, displacing…

Facepalmingly Unsurprising News of the Day: Land Lines Are Dead

I actually talk about this often with friends: how it’s interesting that nobody seemed to notice when the shorthand ‘phone’ became a term for cellphones, and ‘home phone’ now needs clarification when (and if) used in general conversation. Well, it seems those home phones are on their last legs. Researchers for the NCHS have discovered in a recent study that… brace for it… seriously, hold on to your hat. Do you have a weak heart? I’d advise you to leave the room for this one. Alright, here goes… Land lines are going extinct. By all means, facepalm for a moment. I can wait. Seriously, though, apparently…

Wristwatch Smartphone Aimed At Futurists and Possibly Surfer Douches

Wristwatch Smartphone Aimed At Futurists and Possibly Surfer Douches

Whenever you think of ‘wrist communicator’, it’s hard not to conjure up images of clean Star Trek vessels and their neat, pressed uniforms. The 24th century is slick, man! But while this new concept Samsung smartphone/wristwatch is certainly futuristic, you gotta’ admit – the design seems a lot like the wristbands favored by the kind of people you find constantly playing hacky sack (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Designed by Erik Campbell, the concept is based on a combination of a flexible, OLED touchscreen, a physical keypad and shock-resistant electronics. Obviously, the…

Microsoft Launches Own-Brand Smartphones April 12

Microsoft is about to introduce its very own attempt at smartphone, its own-branded phones, hitherto developed by the top secret Project Pink team. We’re learning that the phones are set to be introduced next week, though they won’t be called Pink. They are being described as robust QWERTY-enabled messaging devices with social networking features that will be aimed at younger users. Expect them to be called Turtle and Pure. We think the two Project Pink phones will make use of some of the technologies Microsoft acquired when it got its claws on Sidekick manufacturer, Danger. Reuters tells…
