LucasArts is gone

LucasArts is gone

Gamers, it’s time to mourn the loss of one of our oldest and most respected gaming icons. After 31 years, LucasArts has been shuttered by Disney. Around 150 employees were laid off. According to Kotaku: Publicly, Disney is saying their current games could be licensed out to a different publisher or developer, but according to our source, that’s unlikely. Our source says Lucas has pursued the option for “one or both games,” but nothing happened. “With the teams now basically being dispersed I think both games are effectively dead forever,” our source said. It’s sad news but not unexpected. They…

If cell phones are allowed to be unlocked, the technology of the republic is working

If cell phones are allowed to be unlocked, the technology of the republic is working

Since the establishment of We the People, the US government site dedicated to allowing citizens to petition the government to respond to their concerns, the concept has been engulfed by follies, giggles, and sour grapes. It has not been effective in getting any real changes made in government and at times it has been more of a comical retreat as well as a platform where the opinions of the White House can be spread through “replies” that were already a part of public record. Today, we saw something different, something better. Today, the system might actually have worked as promised. A petition…

A Star Wars family tree that shows it really was a soap opera

A Star Wars family tree that shows it really was a soap opera

“No. I am your father.” Audiences across the world collectively gasped when Darth Vader revealed to his nemesis Jedi in training Luke Skywalker that he was, at one point, Anakin Skywalker, his father. George Lucas went to great measures to make sure that the reveal was one of the best ones in history, even having the voice of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, record a secondary red herring voice-over saying, “Obi Wan was your father.” If it weren’t for the blaster fire and lightsaber battles, one might look at the backwards family history of the Skywalker clan as a soap opera. Heros kissing, only to find…

Harrison Ford to return as Han Solo for Star Wars Episode VII?

Harrison Ford to return as Han Solo for Star Wars Episode VII?

We still have two years to watch the rumors fly about the Disney chapter of Star Wars, but they’ll keep popping up faster than Apple’s iWatch rumors. That’s how much geeks and geek journalists cherish the franchise. The latest rumor is a whopper: Harrison Ford has agreed in principle to return as Han Solo as long as the character finally gets to die. This one comes from an entertainment industry sleeper: Latino Review. It’s not the biggest name in entertainment news but the team has been known to get exclusive scoops and rumors on movies that have turned out to be extremely reliable. Geoff Boucher…

Geeks win with the Star Wars flash drive Pez dispenser

Geeks win with the Star Wars flash drive Pez dispenser

The Pez is strong with this one. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about true geeks over the years, it’s that they love Star Wars in any form. Our patience was tested to its fullest with the most recent trilogy, but we did not waver for very long. Disney and JJ Abrams give us hope, a new hope, so to speak, but until we go through another round of tests of our trust in the Star Wars universe, we have these flash drive Pez dispensers around to keep us busy. According to BitRebels: Another example are these super geeky Star Wars Pez Dispensers that are modded to include a flash drive inside. Etsy artist DHHdesign…

Sons of Anarchy gets the Tatooine treatment with Son of Anakin

Sons of Anarchy gets the Tatooine treatment with Son of Anakin

The popular television show “Sons of Anarchy” on FX may be one of the grittiest on air today, but can it get any grittier than the story of a boy who was abandoned by a father who overthrew the galaxy’s government, only to be defeated and even reunited in war with his son years later? Star Wars is a pretty harrowing tale if you really think about it, which is why the two were destined to meet at some point. Here’s the original emblem for the show: Now, here’s the Tatooine treatment: * * * “Sons of Anakin” via Society6.  …

Lightsaber door handle changes color when occupied

Lightsaber door handle changes color when occupied

The “laser sword” we have come to know and love from the Star Wars movies, the Lightsaber, is the signature weapon used between a Jedi and a Sith, basically the weaponry used to counteract good vs. evil. Spanning back to 1977 when we were first introduced to the blade of plasma used to deflect blaster bolts and leave the defeated wounded with cauterized flesh, this pioneering form of combat was futuristic then and still remains ultramodern today. Although a true Lightsaber does not yet exist, there are other forms it does come in such as Star Wars toys and gimmicks and can now be a part of your entry…

Star Wars weaponry: The creation of the lightsaber [Infographic]

The lightsaber has become one of the most wanted sci-fi fantasy weaponry and it’s been replicated throughout homes with paper towel rolls, sticks and of course the toys of lightsabers. This polished fictional weapon that projects a plasma blade has been featured in every Star Wars movie, minus the Star Wars Holiday Special, with an epic anticipated dual. …

Wake up to Star Wars LEGO alarm clocks

Wake up to Star Wars LEGO alarm clocks

We know you haven’t completely gone to the darkside, well, perhaps while you are awake but our imaginations can get the best of us in our sleep and that means that our internal clocks cannot always be trusted. That is why when our minds travel to a galaxy far away, we need something to bring us back into the light, or at least wake us up in time for work. …

Luke Skywalker lightsaber lava lamp

Luke Skywalker lightsaber lava lamp

I remember how much a lightsaber was enjoyed when a friend would pull one out of their closet, it was certainly one gift I wanted but never got as a kid. Luckily, I had really awesome friends who were willing to share and since I was always willing to play, it became one of my favorite toys. Now, as an adult finding a Luke Skywalker (Hello!) lightsaber lava lamp makes me want to pop in a Star Wars DVD and have a marathon. …
