Since the rebellion, R2D2 has fallen on tough times

Since the rebellion, R2D2 has fallen on tough times

As the only true survivor of the entire Skywalker saga, the noble robot R2D2 watched the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker and then helped his son bring about the ultimate downfall of the Empire. He has a hero in more ways than a Wookie can count which makes his current condition so much more sad. If this is how we treat our heroes when they age, what incentive does one have to be so selfless?…

The force is strong with this one: An R2-D2 figurine you control with a matching watch

Hello my far away galaxy friend. We meet at last… Charge forth with light sabers, wookies and storm troopers and be sure to banish all non-Star Wars loving creatures from your area on Planet Earth, for we are about to sound like R2-D2 to them as we pivot ourselves into galactic history. Ahhh… R2-D2, only the most beloved android there is, and no we are not talking about phones here people! We are talking about the human cyborg C3PO’s best matched counterpart R2-D2. The resourceful and spunky droid, though only able to communicate through beeping sounds easily became a much loved astromech…

Which kind of geek are you?

Which kind of geek are you?

There was a time not too long ago when being called a “geek” was considered derogatory. People avoided geekiness as much as possible and only the few who settled for who they were had the ability to embrace their geekness and make the most of it. Today, things are different. People want to be considered geeks of various types. The stereotyping has become a positive thing. This graphic breaks down some of the most popular geek types. Click to enlarge. Nerds unite! Celebrating Star Wars Day with The Avengers

Nerds unite! Celebrating Star Wars Day with The Avengers

May the Fourth be with you! Its Star Wars day and there is no better day than this to let your nerd hang out and go see Marvel’s Avengers this weekend. I celebrated early this year, attending the midnight premier of The Avengers in costume. I have been an avid comic fan for many years and since the Infinity Gauntlet Series released by Marvel many years ago, I have been anticipating the release of this film before it was even conceived. I stood in the theater proudly exhibiting my home made Hawkeye costume and wondered why no one else was joining me in this moment of pure awesomeness. What makes the nerd…

You

You'll never look at Darth Vader the same again

Some have said he’s the greatest villain of all time in movies. Other say he was more likeable than the protagonists. He exudes power, authority, and an oddly-righteous evil that only Darth Vader can pull off. He also has some great dance moves, apparently. Warning: watching these videos may ruin portions of your childhood memories. …

Star Wars "Imperial March" (as performed by 2 floppy disk drives)

Star Wars "Imperial March" (as performed by 2 floppy disk drives)

Few songs are more sinister or invoke a deeper geek reaction than Imperial March, the musical interpretation of the domination of the Empire in Star Wars. Thanks to YouTube user sh4dowww90, we now have the song to enjoy in a format most have never heard: floppy disk drive music. Here’s how it works: It’s nothing new and it’s very simple. The sound comes from a magnetic head moved by stepper motor. To make a specific sound, head must be moved with appropriate frequency. FDD has a simple interface – the description may be found for example [ HERE ]. To move the head you need to activate the drive…

Random video Wednesday: The original Star Wars trailer

Random video Wednesday: The original Star Wars trailer

With Star Wars Kinect previews coming out and disappointing real fans such as myself, I thought it was appropriate to show my age and reminisce a bit. Below, you will find the original trailer for the epic that was (and still is) Star Wars. Prepare yourself. Get into a happy place. If you haven’t seen it before, it should still all seem strangely familiar. If you have seen it before, get ready to remember. …

Star Wars Kinect from E3 looks pathetic

Star Wars Kinect from E3 looks pathetic

I suppose we should have expected it. Those of us who have dreamed of battling as a Jedi with real lightsabers have been waiting for a virtual version (so that we don’t chop off our own arms, of course). Microsoft appears to have attempted to oblige us at E3 with their initial release of a demonstration of next year’s release. While some would say that they “can’t wait,” I’ll have to pass until a better version is made available. It looks bad. It looks boring. It looks like a game that will be a novelty for an hour or less and then retired forever. Here are a couple of videos – the official release and YouTube…

Nothing says "geek" like a good Star Wars debate

Nothing says "geek" like a good Star Wars debate

Missing “Star Wars Day” is a crime against geeks across the world. If you are wondering when Star Wars Day is, you already missed it – May 4th. Fortunately, there are always ways to make up for it, such as by enjoying this excellent and ever-so-true comic by our friends at Calamities of Nature. Much love to Tony Piro for running this excellent comic. Click to enlarge. …

Geek Porn: The Star Wars Cast

Geek Porn: The Star Wars Cast

Few things are more epic than this. You know the unmasked people, but can you guess which ones are Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and R2D2? If not, you probably shouldn’t be reading this blog. A certain level of “geek cred” is necessary to appreciate how awesome this image from Star Wars truly is….
