Steve Jobs Is Going To Court, For Two Hours

Steve Jobs Is Going To Court, For Two Hours

In most cases, you wouldn’t imagine the CEO of a company being summoned to court, unless that CEO has allegedly done something very, very bad. Well, I guess there is something serious going on because a federal judge in Northern California has ordered Steve Jobs to testify for in court for two hours. RealNetworks is accusing Apple of anti-competitive practices that prevented RealNetworks’ music from being played on the iPod in October 2004. That isn’t the interesting part of the case, however. The interesting part is that the judge wants Steve Jobs, who has been struggling with health issues…

Steve Jobs Was Human Once

Steve Jobs Was Human Once

Many claim he has a reality distortion field around him that takes whatever he really says and converts it into something that people instantly and unequivocally believe. Others claim that he is an android from the future, someone who doesn’t really exist in this world but who is controlled by super-intelligent beings who know exactly what to make him say. If there was any doubt to his humanity, it can be wiped away by the video below. Claiming to be the first televised shot of Apple’s Chosen One, this video depicts a stark opposite to the calm and composed icon of geekdom. Steve Jobs, preparing for…

Dear Apple: Why Do You Hate Porn?

Dear Apple: Why Do You Hate Porn?

Over 40 million Americans visit porn sites. Men aged 18 to 24 account for roughly 70 of this audience. One out of three is female. And the fascinating thing is that Sunday is considered primetime for pornography. But you don’t care, Apple, and that is a problem. So let me ask you a question, Apple: why does it matter to you? If people want to indulge themselves in porn, who are we to tell them not to? These people are not bad: they give into temptation. They are the very people who you sell your products to, who just so happen to give into temptation as well. So, when Hugh Hefner, of all people, announces that…

Record Apple Earnings; Cupertino HQ To Be, Like, Totally Blinged Out

Record Apple Earnings; Cupertino HQ To Be, Like, Totally Blinged Out

First, let’s get the numbers out of the way. For their first fiscal quarter ending on December 25, 2010, Apple – a small American tech company who you may have heard makes a phone, computers (and some kind of  ‘pad’?) – earned a profit of $6 billion on $26.74 billion of revenue. To put that into perspective, their sales of 4.23 million Macs, 16.24 million iPhones, 19.45 million iPods and 7.33 million iPads produced more revenue in one quarter than the annual gross domestic product of Iceland, Paraguay or Cyprus. It also means Apple pulls in more revenue than the GDP of nearly two-thirds of the world’s…

The Rise of Steve Jobs Was the Rise of Apple, So...

The Rise of Steve Jobs Was the Rise of Apple, So...

It is rare that the direction, success, and fate of a company is so closely tied to one person. With Steve Jobs taking a medical leave, people will be wondering and bloggers will be speculating about how it will affect Apple. It won’t. His work there may not be done – he’s still the CEO and will be involved in major decisions – but he has built a company that is amongst the elite “untouchables.” It would take a catastrophic failure bigger than Steve Jobs to take the company down. They’re embedded into our culture like few tech companies have ever been. The company’s rise as well as the rise of Steve Jobs is…

Jobs Forced on Medical Leave Again

Jobs Forced on Medical Leave Again

Effective immediately, Big Steve has been made to take medical leave from Apple again, handing the reigns over to COO Tim Cook and sending the following memo to Apple’s employees. Team, At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company. I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place…

Apple Attempts Avoidance of Antennagate 2 with New Patent

Apple Attempts Avoidance of Antennagate 2 with New Patent

Antennagate sure was a mess, wasn’t it? Maybe ‘mess’ is the wrong word. All things considered, it was pretty tidy mess, and even included sweet pictures of Apple’s underground antenna testing crypts. Was it the biggest case of mass hysteria the tech world has ever seen? Could’ve been – but either way, according to this new patent, it seems Apple isn’t taking any chances. The patent details a new design that would apparently render the Apple logo itself as a functional antenna in both iOS and Mac devices – a move that could more or less end any to all interference by our fat, sausagey fingers. How well…

Obama Name-Drops Jobs As

Obama Name-Drops Jobs As 'Incentive'

In a speech yesterday, Mr. President took a moment to give Big Steve some props, citing him as an example of someone whom Americans should ‘expect to be rich’. An example of modern wealth. What is…a fact is that people in the top 1 percent, people in the top one-tenth of 1 percent, or one-hundredth of 1 percent have a larger share of income and wealth than any time since the 1920s. Those are just facts. That’s not a feeling on the part of Democrats. Those are facts. And something that’s always been the greatest strength of America is a thriving, booming middle class, where everybody has got a shot…

First Photograph of Non-Existent iPad Mini Will Make You Believe... Or Not

First Photograph of Non-Existent iPad Mini Will Make You Believe... Or Not

Oh, hi there. Remember that 7-inch iPad? Here’s a photograph of Taiwanese pop idol Jimmy Lin holding one. Yeah, I’m not buying it either. With all the trash talk Steve’s been giving the rumoured ‘Pad, it’s highly unlikely it could even survive at this point, if released. But that won’t stop the ‘evidence’ from leaking in from all sides, including what I can only assume is this photoshopped image. Apparently, there are more details on Lin’s blog, but sadly, I only speak one language. Good luck….

New iMac Could Be Sensibly Priced - An Apple First!

New iMac Could Be Sensibly Priced - An Apple First!

Digitimes is reporting that Apple is apparently working on a new MacBook Pro and iMac to launch in the first half of 2G’s+11. The piece claims a new MacBook chassis design, but perhaps most intriguing is an alleged lower price point for the iMac. I love Macs, and swear by their overall superiority in certain areas, but let’s be honest: as it is, they’re too expensive. Any hardware you can get in a Mac, you can generally equivocate in a PC for half the price. Even as a total Mac ‘fanboy’, I can admit that part of what you’re paying for is that wee little apple laser-cut into the chassis. Considering that,…

Have Your Case and iPad, 2

Have Your Case and iPad, 2

So this, allegedly, is a case for the next iPad. There’s not much to say – it’s a case. Who’s to say it’s even legit? But assuming it is, it looks like we got that camera we were after, so we can awkwardly take pictures with a giant slab. Have you ever snapped a photograph with a book? You’re about to. The speaker slot also seems much larger, and oddly enough, the design seems surprisingly… more curved. Personally, I thought the iPhone 4 offered evidence that Apple was moving to a far more flat, sexy, industrial look, but it would seem Jobs wants to take it back to the 1998 iMac in terms of design. How hipster,…

iPad 2 to Feature Retina Display, FaceTime, and... USB?

iPad 2 to Feature Retina Display, FaceTime, and... USB?

Citing an unconfirmed report in a Chinese newspaper, Digitimes has had the stone guff to whisper into our supple ears a list of five possible features the iPad 2 may or may not possess. The list is shakey at best, but sensible, and includes thinner glass, for mobility, a Retina display, video chat (meaning FaceTime (meaning cameras)), a 3-axis gyroscope, and – get this – a USB port. On the whole, most of these features are a pretty good bet, I’d say. The only reason the iPad 1 doesn’t have a camera was so they could make money this time out, and a large-as-hell Retina display is also likely in the cards in…
