Highlights from the Apple WWDC Keynote 2013

The tech world has been buzzing for the past 24 hours with news from Apple’s WWDC 2013 Keynote. Apple hosted its first Apple Event, where they introduced several new pieces of innovative technology as well as improvements on current Apple products. You can read my detailed report here, but below are some of the major highlights: AnkiDrive was a new concept introduced by Apple that will be available on iOS devices. AnkiDrive is a small toy car that “thinks just like we do.” The cars reacts to their surroundings and can even target other vehicles, “bringing video games to life on the floor…

Google gets patriotic, will have Glass built in the US

With all the attention Google Glass is getting before it’s even launched, one would think it was an Apple product. It’s not, but it has the buzz level of the new Corvette Stingray. Now, it’s making news by doing something that other tech companies have avoided for a while. They’re going to have Foxconn build Glass in the United States. Foxconn is a Taiwan company that has been associated with Apple products as well as other tech giants. For Glass, they’ll be operating out of a plant in Santa Clara, California. This isn’t the first domestic move. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that certain Macs were going…

Is the end of the Apple era starting?

Is the end of the Apple era starting?

It’s easy to point fingers. It doesn’t take a genius to look at trends and start spouting doom and gloom. When Apple is concerned, it’s even easier, almost wanted, as the company has enjoyed golden child status for several years now. For the first time in a decade, Apple had a quarter that showed negative growth. That alone is not necessarily a telling sign; companies can only continue to show positive numbers for so long. There’s simply no way to sustain it indefinitely and a decade is a long time. However, when you look at the other things that have been happening lately, it’s not out of the realm of…

Apple rumored to be hitting the wearable computers arena with the iWatch

The first “computer” watches were pretty basic by today’s standards, but they launched a concept that has never been fulfilled. The idea of wearing your gadgets is something that was promised by James Bond, Michael Knight, and most recently Google, but Apple might finally deliver with the rumored iWatch. Employees at Apple told Bloomberg that it’s well beyond the concept phase, even beyond the experimental phase with around 100 product designers working on a wearable piece of tech that can do many of the things that the iPhone and iPad do today. A rumor like this couldn’t have come at a better time….

Tim Cook is the Michael Corleone of Apple

Tim Cook is the Michael Corleone of Apple

It has been just over 4 months since Steve Jobs died. Since then, Apple continues to head in the right direction financially and has seen very little in the way of slowing down its development of products. Tim Cook, the CEO, has not had many public appearances since then and the ones he has had have been short, but that changed yesterday during an engagement at a Goldman Sachs conference. Cook, who has been handling investor-relations for a long time due to Steve Jobs’ desire to not engage with (or talk to, or be associated with, or be in the same room with) the people with money who relied on Apple to make…

The toughest tech shoes to ever be filled

The toughest tech shoes to ever be filled

Never has a single man had a greater impact on a tech company than Steve Jobs. Many would say that his influence stretches well beyond Apple, Disney, and his other contributions, that his style and leadership abilities have impacted hundreds, even thousands of successful companies and millions of individuals. His resignation as CEO of Apple was felt around the world, yet nobody felt it more than his successor, Tim Cook. It’s the big chair. There are few tech firms whose CEO has as much power. Beyond the power, there is an expectation to be met. The bar is as high as it can possibly be. The world will…
