Facebook to the Rescue: Zuckerberg & Co. Side With the Rest of Us

Facebook to the Rescue: Zuckerberg & Co. Side With the Rest of Us

You’re a tech-savvy poweruser of most impressive internets, so I won’t remind you of Google and Verizon’s plans to destroy the internet. The internet must remain free, but who will root for the little guy? Apparently, Facebook will. “Facebook continues to support principles of net neutrality for both landline and wireless networks,” said Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes. “Preserving an open Internet that is accessible to innovators — regardless of their size or wealth — will promote a vibrant and competitive marketplace where consumers have ultimate control over the content and services…

AT&T And Verizon Want To Overcharge And Under Deliver In New Markets

AT&T And Verizon Want To Overcharge And Under Deliver In New Markets

Mobile carriers really do have their hands full. They hold the future of pretty much all of our communications in their hands, and while Verizon customers seem pretty satisfied, AT&T is famous for disappointing customers, particularly those fickle iPhone users. While incompetence and high charges are the norm, the carriers are planning to take over other profitable sectors. Mobile payment systems are commonplace in the Scandinavian countries and Japan, but have been slow to take off in North America. The basic functionality would be that stores, vending machines and even two mobile…

Mobile Innovation's Greatest Threat: Greedy Providers?

Greedy providers. The mobile industry is all about squeezing as much money from the consumer as it can. But with AT&T’s move to a tiered pricing for data — and with others sure to follow — we could bear witness to long-lasting impacts that could not only punish consumers, but could destroy potential innovation for the entire industry. We know how it works: as Verizon Wireless and AT&T continue raking in the profits, consumers are being forced to pay more for less, as usual. So now there is a new spin: pay less for less, which is exactly what AT&T is doing. But would this short-term…

Google and Verizon To Launch Tablet Computer

Google and Verizon To Launch Tablet Computer

Verizon is planning to release their own version of the tablet computer with a as-yet-unnamed manufacturer who will be using Google’s software on the device. Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, confirmed that the partnership with Google has been in the works to help Verizon catch up to rival AT&T with a device similar to Apple’s iPad. “We’re working on tablets together, for example. We’re looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience.” McAdam said in an interview with WSJ. Verizon would not discuss a manufacturer or timing, and Google…

HTC's Incredible Android Device Ready For Pre-orders

The latest and greatest from HTC and Android is now available for pre-order from Verizon Wireless. It is the HTC Incredible (we love the name), and it is set to put all other Android devices to shame. While most Android phones run the same software, Verizon and Motorola previously set themselves apart from all the rest by offering the Motorola Droid. Droid did offer more in terms of hardware and features than the rest of the Android players. However, with Sprint aiming to catch up with the competition with the HTC Evo 4G (a truly stunning device), HTC and Verizon partnered up to offer something even…

Verizon App Store Will Cause Big-time Controversy

Verizon App Store Will Cause Big-time Controversy

Verizon and friends want to create their own application stores to compete with the likes of the Apple App Store and Google Apps Marketplace. That’s good, right? After all, isn’t competition a good thing? In most cases, that would be true, but when a competitor holds the keys to all the doors and all owns the roads that leads to those doors, it can be very bad news. Verizon has stated at CTIA Wireless 2010 that V Cast Apps — Verizon’s application store — will learn from Apple’s ways and give developers 70 percent of profits and keep 30 percent for themselves. But the company has also stated that…
