Move over, Rebecca Black. Google+ has its own annoying song, only catchier

Move over, Rebecca Black. Google+ has its own annoying song, only catchier

Many creations and mini-memes have been popping up for the last few weeks since Google went social with the Google+ network. Now, the folks over at Hanson Dodge Creative have made the unofficial song for the social network. Give them credit for being bold and creative. Give them kudos for putting together interesting and topical lyrics. Do not give them credit or kudos for their music making. It’s about as good as one would expect from a song about a social network. Still, it’s all in the name of fun, so don’t be a hater, either. At least it’s not Rebecca Black. H/T to Techvert. …

Was Obama

Was Obama's Twitter Town Hall effective or simply a stunt

When Jack Dorsey from Twitter brought President Barack Obama to answer questions on the social networking site on July 6th, it marked something that has never been done before. Technology met politics in a fresh and potentially intuitive way. Was the end result what everyone expected or were we “left hanging”? The questions were reportedly unknown by Dorsey or the President and were selected by the Twitter community. Things started off well with Obama breaking the ice by saying, “First of all, everyone can sit down. It’s much easier to tweet from a seated position.” So far, so good, but then he…

Batman: Arkham City hype machine gets psychedelic with Riddler trailer

Few games have been as anticipated in recent months as Batman: Arkham City. The unique adventure game uses an appealing combat style, clever puzzles, and iconic heroes and villains to draw us in and make our collective gaming mouths water. The sequel to the wildly-popular Batman: Arkham Asylum is scheduled for launch October 18th in North America and October 21 in Europe. …

Jet-Propelled wing flying over the Grand Canyon: Jetman

Jet-Propelled wing flying over the Grand Canyon: Jetman

Many children dream of flying. Whether they want to be pilots or Superman, there is something compelling about soaring through the air that fills kids’ imaginations and creates desires that need to be satiated. Most of us never experience it beyond commercial flights. Yves Rossy from Switzerland fulfilled his childhood dreams… and then some. First, he became a pilot. That’s admirable but nothing extraordinary. What sets him apart is being the only man in history to fly with a jet-propelled wing. His dream started as a 13-year-old child attending an airshow and watching military jets perform…

Is US space dominance officially over?

Is US space dominance officially over?

When the final space shuttle lands next week at Kennedy Space Center, it will begin a long stretch when the American space program will not be putting people in space. Between Russia, Elon Musk, and Virgin Galactic, it’s very possible that NASA will be the 4th or 5th next entity to do so. Is the US space domination officially over? Will NASA be able to make up any lost ground when funding recovers and focus is given to manned space expeditions? This video helps us to visualize what all this means and helps to put into perspective what is potentially lost. …

More brilliant Apple marketing: appealing to iPad and Mac owners for the iPhone

More brilliant Apple marketing: appealing to iPad and Mac owners for the iPhone

As if they didn’t do a great job already of marketing each individual product they put out, Apple has stepped up their push in the phone market by appealing to those who already have iPads and Macs, as well as those who have friends who have iPhones, iPads, or Macs. “If you don’t have an iPhone…” is the concept and centers around Facetime, the iOS app that allows users to video conference through their mobile devices or computers. With Android phones moving up quickly in the marketplace, Apple is feeling the heat to be more than just the “cool” smartphone. They want to take back any marketshare they’re…

Trends we'd love to see: nude gaming parties

The demand to make viral videos is skyrocketing. Animals, babies, and special effects flood YouTube daily in videos made by companies and marketing firms in an effort to get views and exposure for a brand. One tried and true method of getting views is through skin. Sex sells. We just didn’t know it sold video game accessories. The clever folks over at  xtendplay is trying to do just that with the satirical report of a recent “Nude Gaming Party” in New York City. The video, somewhat NSFW, has over a million views on YouTube and highlights the fictional subculture of XBuffing – playing games “in the…

Dial-Up modem sound is creepy when slowed down 700%

Dial-Up modem sound is creepy when slowed down 700%

It’s a sound that few of us have heard since the last time we saw a modem that looked like the one above. Still, it’s a sound that will always be recognized by anyone born in the 80s or earlier – the dial-up modem sound. We may have moved on and there may no longer be a need to hear that ever-so-annoying high-pitched whine again in its original form, but the people over at Geektastic slowed it down for us a lot and gave us something that can only be described as creepy. Listen to this and imagine it in a scene from an old M. Night Shyamalan film (think Sixth Sense and not much after that). Chilling. …

It may not be real, but it should be, darn it: The Future Toilet

It may not be real, but it should be, darn it: The Future Toilet

We can dream, right? This video of unknown origin (comment if you know, please) presents a not-so-unrealistic view of what the toilet of the future may look like and how it may operate. Granted, it’s unlikely that you’ll be brewing a cappuccino or grilling a panini from the throne, but having everything relatively automated is simply not too much to ask. As ICanHasInternets puts it, “It’s fake, but nothing about it is impossible. Funny, maybe, but not impossible.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. …

Is a combination of Huxley

Is a combination of Huxley's and Orwell's future coming true? (#killswitch)

It was once hard to imagine a world like either of the ones described in 1984 or Brave New World. There were logistical and technological challenges that made the censorship and control of information pretty much impossible. Today, it’s more than possible. It would be easy. It also may be happening, if you were to believe the assertions by the makers of #killswitch, the documentary. Even here, we’ve discussed why the Internet kill switch is a bad idea. The infographic and video below make the claim that we’re potentially seeing A Brave New 1984 unfolding before our eyes. Do you think we’re really…

For all of those games that you didn

For all of those games that you didn't finish on the NES

Have you ever been tempted to pull out the old Nintendo Entertainment System from the attic just to finish that one game you never got around to? Do you wonder what happened at the end of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game that you were going to get but ended up getting a Super Nintendo instead? Are you too young to look at the NES as an actual gaming platform, but rather a mere predecessor to the real platforms of today? If you meet any of these criteria, you may want to check out what happened at the end of 50 popular NES games. Thanks to TheFineBros, you can hear the final moments of these games in just over…

Chimp plays first person shooter (and blows stuff up very well)

Chimp plays first person shooter (and blows stuff up very well)

It’s not a cute little chimp pushing buttons randomly. As you’ll see in the video, this guy plays Far Cry 2 well enough to get some kills and blow up some barrels. Rise of the apes? Probably (see below). Still, the power of the opposable thumb is evident, as is the highly developed brain and oddly natural thirst for blood. Our closest relative in the animal kingdom may be more than just stronger and faster. In the future, he may be a better shot with an AK-47. Update: This “viral video” from 20th Century Fox for Rise of the Planet of the Apes got us. At the 0:44 mark, the controller isn’t on, nor is the chimp…
