TECHi's Analysis
407 wordsMatthew Matt Mercer has become one of the most significant and most admired personalities in voice acting. He depicts the shroud in his article dispatch and once again illustrates why he stands out in any group. When he first performed the vocal, the spectators immediately felt what many researchers call the so-called Mercer effect, an overwhelming force the actor puts into every role that he plays. In Dispatch, Mercer plays a mysterious villain, and he does not make a significant impact on the scenes, as most of the dialogue is minimal, but he gives a memorable performance.
Mercer can do much more than fulfil this one role. He is known to have performed the voices of many iconic characters in popular culture, courtesy of his vast involvement in the gaming and anime communities. In video games, e.g. he is hailed as Jack Cooper in Titanfall 2, Cole Cassidy in Overwatch, or even Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
These parts highlight his incredible multiplicity, as they both feature hero and villain characters. In anime, he is also quite well-known, having voiced roles in such series as Attack on Titan, Levi Ackerman, One Piece, Trafalgar Law and Hunter x Hunter, Leorio. Both depictions are natural and alive, and they show how well he understood his art.
It is worth noting that Mercer did not want to become a voice actor in the first place. He was born in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He grew up in a highly creative and stimulating environment with his father being a musician and audio engineer, and his mother an actress. However, he developed a course that deviated, though he was advised not to pursue acting, and at first, he wanted to become an animator. He started as a quality assurance tester and associate producer in the gaming business, but finally, he found his calling in the moratorium.
Outside of his business career, Mercer is known as the Dungeon Master of the popular series of games, Critical Role, which features his storytelling skills and ability to create. Whether it is animation, interactive media or live storytelling, Mercer expresses emotion and depth that can be identified with the audience all over the world. The fact that he portrays Shroud in Dispatch is once again a testimony to the fact that what Matt Mercer says to his audience not only goes down well with them but also sticks in their minds.
