YouTube goes nuts flagging game-related content as violating copyright

Several big-names on YouTube were barraged with copyright violation notices this week which could potentially be erroneous. In the past, ContentID, YouTube’s automated copyright-violation-checker, has overreached in flagging game-related content. But this time, the flagging seems to be related to new rules from YouTube about how video makers who are part of Multi-Channel Networks upload their videos.

Many gamers who upload footage of video games to YouTube are still getting troubling “content ID” matches that threaten to upend YouTube’s gaming content as we know it. But on day three of this controversy, some game publishers appear to be taking steps to help these gamers out.
