Rdio is shutting down its attempt at creating a video streaming service

Trying to brings its success with the music industry to the movie and TV industry, Rdio released its own video streaming service in April called Vdio. However, after only eight months, Vdio is being shut down because it couldn’t compete with other services such as iTunes or Netflix.

Rdio is ending its brief foray into streaming video, shutting down Vdio after just eight months. Unlike Rdio’s music service, which is subscription-based, Vdio offered movies and TV shows for rental and purchase. The service launched in April exclusively for Rdio subscribers, before opening up to everyone in June.
