Modders simulate playing on a Game Boy using Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset designed to help create a more immersive gaming experience, as well as to allow the wearer of the headset to experience certain things they normally wouldn’t, such as playing Sonic the Hedgehog game from a first-person perspective. However one modder has decided to switch things up a bit and has created a mod for the Oculus Rift that allows gamers to experience what it is like playing the Nintendo Game Boy.

Most Oculus Rift experiences aim to create something that cannot be experienced in real life. Modders have placed players behind the wheels of a Mario Kart and in the world of Ocarina of Time, but Shane O’Brien opted for a different Oculus Rift Nintendo experience. In the video below, you’ll see O’Brien playing the mod that lets you experience what’s its like to play a Game Boy in a virtual reality space. You can also download the mod for yourself here if you have an Oculus Rift headset. O’Brien incorporated a Game Boy emulator modified to work in Unity to create the bizarre experience.
