The Future of Phones is… Stickers?

rfidnewsY’know how experts are always forecasting that we’ll soon be using our phones for everything, including ePayments and eTicketing and sutff? Well hold onto your hat, because the future is now. In sticker form.

KSW Microtec AG, a manufacturer of RFID components for credit cards and such, has developed an RFID sticker for your phone that functions as an alternative to your traditional wallet full of cards.

The sticker acts in lieu of your credit or debit card and is apparently affixed ‘securely’ to your phone, in order to meet credit card companies’ authentication standards. What ‘securely’ means in the world of stickers is certainly beyond me. Velcro? When does a sticker cease being a sticker, anyway?

In any case, assuming this technology is easy-to-use, functional, and secure, this could be a wildly-popular alternative to buying a new phone in the future. Hell, the white iPhone might even be out by then. Just pop a sticker on that shizz and you’re good to go.

  1. My thoughts to the securely thing. An adhesive strong enough that if any attempt was made to remove it, it would destroy the workings of the sticker itself. Therefore, I’m not sure how good this would be considering if you battery door takes up the length of your phone, it could be easily disconnected from the physical device. However, if placed on the inside of the door, where no one would see it. I could see me being ok with it…
