The good ol’ days of watching television shows strictly from, well, a television have been long behind us as many have migrated to handheld devices for their mobile viewing pleasure. Now, Nielsen, the company that measures success in the industry, has caught up with the trends of viewers and will now include those growing number of non-traditional views.

The shows you watch on your smartphones and tablets will soon count toward Nielsen television ratings.

For years, the ratings giant has tracked viewership through traditional TV sets, but starting in 2014, shows streamed on mobile devices will also count toward the figures.
