According to Microsoft this will be “the world’s first joint research center dedicated to studying and perfecting the social applications of NUI.” That’s about as incredibly specific as these sorts of claims get, but still, Redmond’s new Australian facility is an intriguing one, particularly in light of the company’s all-in Kinect investment in the wake of the Xbox One.

Innovation is part of the Microsoft DNA and we continue to invest in innovation all around the world, including Australia. I’m really excited that this morning in Melbourne, we are announcing the opening of the new Microsoft Centre for Social Natural User Interface (‘NUI’) Research – the first dedicated research centre of its kind in the world!
