Instagram has sent out media invitations for an event next week in New York City. The Facebook-owned social network sent the invitations via FedEx, rather than through email as is customary with tech companies, according to CNET. Instagram opted for FedEx because its invitation contained more than just a piece of paper with a time and address on it.

CNET received a FedEx package yesterday with an invitation to “share a moment” with the Instagram team at a mysterious event in Midtown Manhattan on December 12 at 10 a.m. A spokeswoman declined to give CNET details about the event, but industry buzz suggests Instagram may be launching a private messaging service within its photo and video app, and is experimenting with group messaging.
