Motorola will reportedly launch a 6-inch phablet this year at some point in the third quarter, a source familiar with the matter revealed on Weibo, although an actual release date for the handset has not been offered. Hardware details for such a Motorola big-screen smartphone have not been shared either, with a previous rumor claiming that a Motorola Xplay handset in the works for 2014 may have a 6.3-inch display.

It’s been a turbulent few months for Motorola Mobility. In January it announced Chinese tech firm Lenoovo would be acquiring the company from Google, then the following month it lost its CEO, Dennis Woodside. Despite the changes, it appears the mobile maker is pressing ahead with plans to release a phablet, with reports over the weekend suggesting the company is readying a  6.3-inch device for a Q3 2014 launch. Talk of a Motorola Mobility phablet first surfaced last October, and so it appears the recent upheaval within the company has apparently had little or no effect on plans to move ahead with the production of a phablet.
