Samsung’s Android Wear smartwatch could be shown off at I/O

Samsung already has its own line of Gear smartwatches running its in-house Tizen OS, but the company may also be preparing to unveil an Android Wear device alongside Motorola’s Moto 360 and LG’s G Watch. Last month a trademark for the “Galaxy Wear” brand was traced back to the South Korean phone maker, and now a new Samsung smartwatch has passed through the FCC just ahead of Google’s I/O developer conference. The new Samsung smartwatch is noticeably smaller than recent Gear models, measuring 37 x 46 mm compared to the Gear 2′s 36.9 x 58.4 mm display. The FCC doesn’t offer any more information beyond that, but all signs seem to point towards an Android Wear device from Samsung.

SM-R382 after passing Bluetooth certification, visited FCC and passed it also. Certified wearable has only Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and according to fcc documents lost 10mm in height compared to Gear 2 with it’s 37 x 46 mm dimensions. Gear 2: 36.9 x 58.4 Gear 2 Neo: 37.9 x 58.8 mm. Judging by the device name pattern SM-R38x it seems that this wearable might be a part of Gear 2 family. After TheGear 2 Solo (SM-R710) it is another yet unannounced and unnamed Samsung wearable device. SammyToday suspects that SM-R382 could be a Gear 2 running Google’s Android Wear OS and might be presented among other wearables at upcoming Google I/O event. Samsung filled a trademark registration application for GALAXY Wear name two weeks ago. Suits well a Samsung device running Android Wear operating system doesn’t it? Also keep in mind that Samsung was listed among others OEM’s to launch a Android Wear device at the OS launch.
