With a simple “yes,” Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that Minecraft will be heading to Windows Phone. It’s not a surprising move given Microsoft’s recent acquisition of the popular title, but the software maker didn’t promise to bring Minecraft to Windows Phone in its original announcement. Spencer’s confirmation means Microsoft will likely be working on porting the game across once the deal is finalized, and it may even arrive for Surface RT and Windows RT users. Microsoft’s new universal apps appear to be the most logical way to bring Minecraft to Windows Phone and the “Metro-style” version to Windows 8.1 and Windows RT, but the company will also have to manage the recently released Xbox One version. Microsoft’s deal to purchase the makers of Minecraft is set to complete by the end of the year, and the company has also promised to keep working on cross-platform versions of the game.
