Roku and Sharp are teaming up to create smart televisions

43 sec read

Roku’s current products allow users to turn their dumb televisions into smart ones for less than $100, but the company has been partnering with a handful of companies over the last few months to start selling all-in-one smart televisions as well. The latest such partner is Sharp, which is working on two Roku-powered smart televisions that will run you $379 or $499 for a 1080p smart-TV with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Roku has already partnered with a handful of companies including TCL, Hisense, Haier and Insignia to produce smart TVs using its own software. Now, the company is teaming up with yet another television-maker to expand its reach in North America. The latest Roku TVs will come from Sharp in 43-inch and 50-inch variants for $379 and $499, respectively. Both models offer a 1080p resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate and a black design. The new TVs are available exclusively from Best Buy both in-stores and online this month. That covers locations in the U.S. as well as Canada. “We believe the benefits of the Roku platform combined with the superiority of the Sharp brand makes an appealing combination for consumers looking for a great smart TV experience,” said Sharp Electronics direct of technology planning Vishnu Rao.
