Learn more about your coworkers with LinkedIn’s new app

Connecting with new people is great and all, and LinkedIn is an excellent way to do just that, but what about getting to know the people you’ve already connected with a bit better? That’s where LinkedIn thinks its new standalone app can be of assistance. Known as Lookup, the app was created when it was found that most workers don’t find their company’s internal tools to be very helpful when looking up information about their coworkers.

While LinkedIn is a handy tool for connecting with new acquaintances or networking with others in your industry, the company thinks it could do a better job at helping you get to know the people you already work with. That’s the goal of Lookup, LinkedIn’s newest standalone app, which allows people to easily find information and get in touch with their coworkers. Lookup was created by a team led by Pulse founder Ankit Gupta who says the app was inspired by the company’s research that found just 38% of users who were polled said they found their company’s internal tools helpful for looking up information about their coworkers. “In response, people are looking elsewhere to learn about their coworkers. 46 percent say they look up coworkers on LinkedIn,” Gupta wrote in a blog post. “That’s because it’s easier to find coworkers on LinkedIn, and the professional info people add to their profiles is more comprehensive and up-to-date than lots of companies’ intranets.”
