Roku is recognized as the set-top box with the most online video content but until yesterday most of its devices were missing one of the world’s biggest video providers, YouTube, which was available only on the Roku 3 and Roku streaming stick. Now the firehose of video is available as an app on all of what Roku calls its “current generation” boxes — those made after July, 2011. With the addition of YouTube on all its devices, Roku catches up to the New Amazon Fire TV.

Good news for Roku users, the company announced yesterday that YouTube is now officially available in the Roku Channel Store for all its “current generation” boxes — any box launched after July 2011. Up until now, YouTube was available only on the Roku 3 and Roku streaming stick, with everyone else having to rely on workarounds like Twonky or PlayOn to access Google’s video service. With this Roku catches up to the New Amazon Fire TV, which was launched earlier this month. You can also send YouTube videos from your Android devices, iPhone and iPad to your TV, if you are on the same WiFi network as your Roku box. Just click on the screen icon to instantly send the video to your TV.
