Google’s URL shortening service gets released as an Android app

Google’s URL shortening service—available at goo.gl—has been around for a while, and it’s a great way to shorten your links and track how they do online. Now, the same service is available as a free Android app, meaning you can shorten those URLs and track their progress from your smartphone or tablet. The main purpose of the app is to shorten and share links – particularly on social networks with limitations on how long a post can be – like Twitter clients without automatic shorteners. You can do this my copying a URL into the app or straight from your mobile browser using the share button. Once you’ve shared a link, Google’s URL shortener also offers colorful analytics to show which links are shared the most and why. You can also use the app to check out analytics for any other URL that’s been shortened by Google.
